So what was Disneys reasoning in this?

Kimmel makes some comments. Were they the worst ever, no. But they were dumb. Disney says “Jesus Christ jimmy what are you doing to us right now” and pulls him.
Then a week later he’s back? With what just a back door scolding? He didn’t really apologize in any way and then went in even harder to me it seemed.
So why even do all of this? Secretly boost ratings? I have to think they are smarter than that.
What was the point of all of this from Disney’s perspective? They’d probably have had less of a shite storm if they did nothing at all.

Hoping controversy would bring viewers, perhaps.
However, there's no way of salvaging his steaming pile of a show that nobody cares about

Cracker Barrel method. Hoping notoriety and free publicity will bring views/$$.

Disney has no one with any reasoning.

Seems to me they’re just a weather vane, and the wind started blowing the other direction.

We don't know what Kimmel told them last Wednesday, but it evidently scared them into pulling him before the situation got to the point of no return. Kimmel has obviously had a change of heart or now realizes that standing firm on his original comments and doubling down wouldn't have been in anyone's best interests.

Disney's affiliates are balking at his return, but the leftist groomers at Disney support Kimmel and what he said.

I think his ratings were so bad they were looking for an out, But then they caved to the push back from hollywood. So now they are stuck with him for a while longer.

I think Disney decided to do this for the quick ratings boost and then when that quickly fades, they have the excuse not to renew his contract.

Disney is a massive corporate entity. If liberals start boycotting their theme parks, hotels, cruises, movies, TV programs, etc... then that's going to crush their revenue streams. Likewise they had to do something to make sure conservatives wouldn't do the same.
I think they're just trying to hedge their bets and placate both sides of the fence to minimize fallout. Kimmel put them in this position and he will ultimately suffer the consequences of that.
ABC was going to have to keep paying for the show anyway under the terms of the contract and labor rules. Just like Colbert, when it is time to renegotiate a new deal next year, they will make some type of humble announcement that the show will be ending. To be honest, he was probably dead in the water before this happened.

Disney is a strong candidate for stupidest corporate entity of their size going in the world today. They have a long track-record of giving the appearance of de-escalating their political biases only to double-down when the pressure eases. They've bought up enough properties to float along, but my hope is that it catches up to them one day.

It can all be boiled down to Bob Iger is no longer the man to run that company. I actually think the board will can him sooner than later. Stock holders have got to be furious.
No matter where you are on the political spectrum, he played this about as poorly as he could've.

I don't think denying that you said what you clearly said is much better.

I think all the writers and actors that work for Disney were going to boycott working for them so Disney bitched out

He didn't apologize and went straight after Trump in his return. He claimed it was all a joke. He's a bitch and so is Disney for caving.
HOWEVER, two of the largest distributors in the U.S. pulled the show and refuse to show it. He wasn't on in Nola last night. His already shitty ratings are going to tank even more and he'll be done when his contract runs out in the Spring.

I think they were going to fire him, but with all of the actors calling for a Disney boycott, they decided to reinstate him.

The simplest solution is most often right.
ABC/Disney has been leftist biased for years. They are not only pro left, they are actively anti conservative.
ABC/Disney has been getting their economic and legal arses handed to them by the right and MAGA in particular. They have also had falling customer participation in their programs, news viewing, movie goers, and park attendance.
Kimmel told demonstrable lies that offend and antagonize the post Charlie murdered right. ABC/Disney cannot afford political antagonism to its dwindling customer base. 60+ affiliated stations refused to air Kimmel. They also cannot afford another political loss to MAGA.
Therefore they tried to thread the needle. They asked Kimmel to apologize and tone down the lies. He refused, and they announced his “temporary” removal. Their hope was that he would apologize and come back.
Kimmel would never bend the knee, so theoretically he was off the air permanently.
Then a violent leftist terrorist shot up an ABC California affiliate.
ABC/Disney management feared for their lives and the lives of their families!!!
They instantly fell to their knees in supplication to the violent leftist terrorist.
It’s that simple.

Honestly, perhaps I’m just jaded, but I’m beginning to think this whole thing was a Hail Mary stunt on both Kimmel’s and Disney’s part to give Kimmel’s ratings a shot in the arm.

Don’t matter why they did it. Every day this guy is on the air.. Disney loses money on his show. There is your bright side.
