What? The crime happened off campus where the LSU PD has limited jurisdiction.

LSU has its own police department. They should be working with the BRPD to clean up the surrounding areas

Instead they’re giving out “MIPs” to kids drinking beer on game days. They’re focused on what really matters.

If someone gets shot in Tigertown bc the Gvt decided to move all that section 8 housing over there- well frick em. What’s Tate supposed to do?

This isn’t the first violent crime affecting an LSU student since he’s been in charge. Just the most serious

Still not sure how you're equating Tate and crime that didn't happen on campus.

If she was shot by the North Gates, sure. But she was miles from campus.

Was Jenkins being blamed as president for not protecting LSU students when DTL was going through his baton rouge rampage?

No because he addressed it. The whole campus was made aware.

Hell, the news covered it almost every night.

No one wants to address the current crime.

This wasn’t claimed, but nice deflection. It was a (singular) course, and that ship hasn’t sailed yet,

That being said, this isn’t on Tate.

Nothing, that is the issue. I haven’t seen him condemn the mayor or BRPD chief for their complete failure in regards to law enforcement and keeping Baton Rouge’s citizens and LSU students safe.

He hasn’t used his large political clout to directly address this issue. Student safety should be a top priority, and he failed. If the areas around the campus he is President of are crime ridden, it’s his job to address the issue.

Ya think maybe he could at least warn the student body about the crime in the area.

These assholes will search down an “off campus” frat party and take administrative action against these kids. Or wreck their lives with a Title IX “incident” occurring off campus.

But they show no concern for their student body or the safety of the places where they gather and socialize otherwise? Give me a break.

There was no concern in advance of this young woman’s shooting, and will be none following.

I will retract my statement if he actually criticizes the crime problem in BR for purposes of improving the safety of the student body, and for attracting students to campus in the future.

I don’t think I will have to do it; that’s the level of confidence I have in his uselessness.

He’s probably worse than Broome - bc at least he’s smart. Broome is a functioning moron.

And ETA - the location is roughly 2.5 miles from
LSU’s campus.

Okay I'll agree here. That's fair.

Would Tates book qualify this as white privilege justice? Since the common bad neighborhoods deal with this all the time?

I think this problem is way bigger than Tate, though. Violent crime is rising across the nation.

That said, I agree that he should give a public statement about the crime affecting LSU students, and he should call out local leadership.

I do not agree with the OP's thread title, but as the father of a senior 21 year-old girl that we sent to OU, it sickens me to read this and it breaks my heart. It also confirms why we wouldn't consider LSU. Baton Rouge is not the city it was back in the 70's when I was there. Violence and corruption are now too common. She went to at least 20 LSU games with me, and was a big Tigers fan. But my wife and I decided her safety was paramount and we wouldn't consider sending her there and we also didn't like how woke the school had become.

This could happen anywhere, I know, but it does tell me is that I should use this news to educate my daughter on being alone, at night, and not letting herself get caught where she is stuck at a place like that with no way out.

I don't know this young lady or her parents, but I would put my arm around them and cry with them over this. It is senseless killing and it came from a source of evil that has permeated the state.

It is truly heartbreaking.

I don’t know her or her family, but we have mutual friends.

This whole situation is devastating for the BR community as a whole, and for the LSU student body in particular.

No one in authority for either institution has done anything to prevent something like this - aside from ignore the escalating violence and crime in the area surrounding LSU campus. Again, this was about 2.5-3 miles from campus.

t’s just so very senseless.

I love you Wednesday, but Tate really doesn't have any fault here.

The shite on campus? Absolutely.

But, this is well far away from campus.

Now...if he does not come out and forcefully push the idiot mayor and her toady Chief to get their shite together, then he's failing.
