Isnt that how we did it in Afghanistan? With special forces fighting with locals and calling in air support?

In the early stages yes. Then it got messy.

I know several of the 5th group guys who were there first (12 Strong was based on them). One of them has a son in my son’s unit - crazy part is his dad was one of the very first American boots on the ground in Afghanistan and the son was was of the very last. The son wasn’t born when his dad was first there.

C-130's aren't combat aircraft. You must be thinking of something else.

Dad should get a paternity test.

There’s some variations of them that have guns.

All we need is a force to fight them in Iran. And that shouldn't be hard since they will soon be just scattered small groups. The question they should be concerned with is how are they (irgc) going to survive in a country that is hunting them.

As soon as they are outnumbered and a new gov't is installed they will be on the run from fellow Iranians.

There is no quit in them. We will be dealing with sleeper cells in our country forever and even if we wipe out the current regime, remnants of the radicals in Iran will be a pain in the arse forever. But, they want you dead. They want me dead. Are we going to do everything we can to make the ME as peaceful as possible and throttle Israel if we somehow get out of this quickly or will Israel want to get us into something else that's stuck in their craw?

Not nearly as intimidating as an A10. It's just weird that guy mentioned C-130's twice. As if they strike the fear of God into an opponent.

It's a cargo plane.

Without very clear, defined, concrete objectives, you don’t.

this position right out of the gate shows me you don't want to discuss alternative definitions of "win" other than your own

Since they appear committed to this Iran shite.. they need to take out the regime, from top level to mid level, and then provide a legit framework for democracy.

Don't blow the infrastructure up. Persians are going to need all that. If we destroy too much of it, it's guaranteed that DC will send billions overseas to pay to repair it.

Persians aren't like Africans who let their countries fall apart and degrade. Persians will build up and maintain a modern level country.

Iran population: 93 000,000. Israel population: 9,600,000

3) do you have any idea of the natural geographical defenses of Iran?

The Ottoman Empire, over the course of 900+ years, could not conquer and occupy Iran beyond the sliver of the Western coast, because the Zagros Mountains lie beyond that, and that creates mountain passes that are bottlenecks and easily defensible. Iraq - armed and supported by the U.S., could not penetrate Iran beyond the Zagros mountains in 10 years over the course of the 1980s in a brutal and costly war... and the revelation of the Iran-Contra scandal, that the U.S. was selling arms to Iran at the same time, is what turned Saddam Hussein against the U.S.

And should any troops get beyond that, they are in deserts. Mountains (and deserts) give them protection from every direction.

4) Despite what videos by the children of ex-pats who've never been to Iran, made in the US and Canada, waving Israeli flags seem to have convinced some of you, Israel is not beloved by the general population of Iran... so despite their dislike of the regime, if Israel invades the country, they will fight against Israel... the same way Iraqis fought the U.S. The same way you would fight whoever invaded the U.S.

5) the minute Israel diverts its forces (and look at those population totals, again. Every young person is a member of the IDF, but they're still dwarfed by the Iranians, so they would have to send a huge force) the remaining members of Hezbollah will attack into Israel in the North from Lebanon, and from the East from the West Bank... and whatever is left of Hamas will do the same from Gaza. So, Israel cannot send that size of a force. This was a built-in trap Iran created when it began supporting Hamas and Hezbollah (despite the fact that they and the Houthis are "Sunni infidels" and natural enemies) to make sure Israel never attempted an invasion.

So, that's why Israel can't “just go in and wipe them all out.”

“ C-130's aren't combat aircraft. You must be thinking of something else.”(quote drug).

What are those bad boys that circle overhead with the big rapid fire weapons coming out of the sides, dr? Given pinpoint targets they circle and reign hell down from up top. The A-10s make a pass but that other holds the target and fire. Thanks friend.
