Fine then I don’t need to pay them a gift for doing their job adequately. No more tipping from us to them. Since they clearly only need it as a gift.

Good. Now that 2.13 an how can actually be applied to paying for employee health insurance. Most serving jobs have arse health insurance because there’s pretty much no check to deduct anything from.

This doesn't concern me. Now what will make an impact for me is no taxes on overtime pay. I'm doing 65 hours a week. No taxes on overtime pay will be great for me. They need to get it done.

You can give a gift of $10,000 to someone and neither you nor they have to pay a tax on that. Isn't a tip a form of a gift? It's not a requirement in places that I eat at.

Yeah I’m not a fan of government picking winners and losers and that’s all this is. It’s a smart move politically I’ll give them that. But I still don’t like it.

Our government is ripping us off and stealing our future from us for the benefit of the elites. I’ll never get mad at hard working people paying less taxes. I am not a naturally jealous or envious person to see others doing well.

I'm going to approach my employer tomorrow, and try to convince him to reclassify my wages as tips!

No it's considered part of their compensation. Which is why tipped minimum wages exist.

Tipping is stupid. Imagine needing tips to do your job correctly.

fricking retarded. Not that many tipped ppl pay taxes anyway. But, it's a horrible precedent.

As far as I know every income supplemented by tips employee in every state in the USA has a certain percentage of their tips automatically declared for them by their employer. In many cases it’s still a significantly small portion of their overall income.
At the end of the year we currently have a lot of income supplemented by tip employees that get a bigger refund than they pay into the tax system.
Non income supplemented by tips hourly employees declare zero tips and I can’t see why they would other than tips on credit cards needing to be reconciled for sales tax reasons.
To a certain extent lots of service industry employees who make money via tips claim 100% (sometimes more) of what they make. It’s for the purpose of purchasing power and for SS purposes. It’s hard to get a mortgage for a $500k house when you claim $50k per year. Keep in mind not everyone in these service industries are college kids looking for beer money.
The collective understanding of the service/tipping industry is extremely low. Way more misconceptions than what is accurate.
As a business owner this is going to save me an incredible amount of money.

I kinda like it... I can pay $60 for a good meal... or $50 if the service sucked... it's like a choose your own adventure thing.

If tips were included, you'd have no recourse for crappy service... and your waitstaff no incentive to be attentive.

Hell, I tipped (for the first time ever) my oil change ladies today because they were freaking awesome and I simply wanted to encourage them.

You don’t have to tip. It isn’t required. You won’t get charged with theft of services if you don’t. You won’t get a lien placed on your property. There is no contract implied or otherwise.

You elect to give that money.

Nah. The IRS has already declared several business expenses untaxed because they are impractical to enforce by them and employers. Example, you don’t have to separate cell phone use between business and personal. You can deduct the entire bill in most cases.

Can you expand on this? My impression was that tips were not included in payroll taxes.
