Louisiana U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy said Monday that he’d be voting against the confirmation of U.S. District of Columbia Appeals Court Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

A Baton Rouge Republican, Cassidy’s vote was one of the few being watched despite his having voted in July against Jackson’s ascension to the federal appellate court. Several of Cassidy’s supporters in Louisiana were looking at his possible “yes” vote as an indicator of his interest in running for governor next year.

But in a statement released Monday, Cassidy called Jackson gracious and intelligent, but she had the support of those who want “an activist judge” and therefore not worthy of his support. “When the political left opposed Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett, not because they were not qualified but because of their presumed jurisprudence, they established the criteria by which future nominees should be judged,” Cassidy said in his prepared statement.

The 100-member Senate is 50-50 Democratic to Republican with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the deciding vote. In Jackson’s case, one Republican, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, of Maine, has announced her support and willingness to join the Democratic said. (I'm assuming it should be "side" instead of "said".)

I still do not like Cassidy and regret voting for him, but he is right to oppose someone who cannot define what a woman is.

It’s because he knows she’s going to be confirmed with or without him. So he’s going to try to fool people with a no vote to begin his quest for Governor

That signals he is aiming for the Governor's chair. Anyway frick that guy, not voting for that establishment Rino hack even if it means another Democrat wins.

They are in the same team. They all cover for each other. Collins already gave the yes vote. Now every other republican can "act" like a republican and vote no. "See, I'm conservative "

That just means they have the votes without him. They count votes and let people in purple areas off the hook it at all possible. Both sides.

Whatever...that's only because he knows his vote is not needed for her to get the nomination. This is an attempt to have this vote in his back packet when running for Governor.

Sorry, Bill...no one is forgetting your other votes.

He knows he can't re-elected so he finds another office to run for where his voting record doesn't mean as much. He knows he won't get the black vote, so this vote against KBJackson won't hurt him.

Give props where they are due. Thanks Cassidy for at least one good thing you did.

This is why Cassidy is an idiot.

The attacks on Barrett was that she was too Catholic and Kavanaugh was bc he was falsely accused as a gang rapist.

Jackson’s actual rulings show a consistent failure to follow the laws as written by Congress. She can be as educated as she wants but if she is consistently applying the law as she wishes - she isn’t a good lawyer or a good judge. She’s not qualified.

Cassidy sucks in every way possible. Even when he reaches the right results he does so for the wrong reasons.

I had no idea, till today, about a question from Cruz about what her view is on humans having natural rights as essentially claimed by the Dec of Ind.
Her response was that she has no position on individuals possessing natural rights. So she thinks the rights come from govt if you do not think you have natural rights. Then govt mandates can remove any natural rights you have and she will be OK with that.
