We survived before when barely anyone was paying income taxes.
More than 100 years ago before 2 world wars. Ever since then, the federal government has been the proverbial idiot that buys a house with no money down and a balloon mortgage that refinances every year with another balloon mortgage. Pulling out of NATO, collecting foreign debt and tariffs isn’t going to make the slightest dent in a $37 trillion debt accumulated over 250 years.

So everyone has grace period up to 150k?
To offset, will they increase % on anything over 150k?

This does nothing but add more freeloaders to the system. Unless we are completely doing away with federal income tax or going to a flat/fair tax, this is crap.
Wien them off of SS, but makes a % of check mandatory goes to a better retirement plan.

I hope not. My wife and I are both W-2 employees so we take the standard deduction every year. We end owing evey year.

Honestly, this is dumb. Either:
1. get rid of income tax altogether
2. Make everyone pay a flat tax of 10%
This striated tax system is stupid

So you are content with an even larger portion of our population having "no skin in the game".
Bills still have to be paid, however, and this group will just continue to vote themselves a larger portion of someone else's paycheck. Year after year.
Newsflash
You are going to have a hard time getting people making 60k a year to sympathize with someone making 150k +

So what? The rich pay more than their fair share. Couldn’t care less about sympathy.

The poster I was quoting was concerned about skin in the game. My point is they never cared to begin with because they never got the invite.

But... but... I thought he only cared about the rich?

Good. The founding father started a war over tea tax
But some of you are okay with room temp IQ bureaucrats setting a percentage of your income that you get to keep, making the tax code 10 billion pages long so their rich donors have loopholes and then throwing you in jail if you send them the wrong amount
When you post stuff like “We can never remove the income tax” you are playing into the authoritarians hands.
That is your money. I’m okay with consumption taxes but property taxes and income taxes need to be removed permanently.
I refuse to accept slave status

not a response to you,
just read the entire thread and not one person with the opinion of "this is stupid" has offered an answer to the question of why. people that bitch about something and offer no other options are truly useless.
this CAN happen. however, it requires multiple significant changes to happen:
federal gov must be significantly diminished. this is the obvious one that people arguing against this have ignored.
tariffs.
consumption taxes.
ridding the system of waste and fraud.
as a matter of opinion, i would pay a 20% income tax with 10% going to the feds, and the second 10% going to paying off the debt.
If you go back and look at history, personal donations go up when taxes go down. FTR governmental "income" goes up as well. When people have more money to spend...guess what....they spend it.

Agreed with your post until this:
Which “loopholes” are you referring to, specifically? And what percentage of the taxes paid do you think the rich need to pay?

Imagine having taxing authority in your name and not having the first clue about the origins of the federal income tax? This is why our country is lost, too many stupid voters
