They are cutting 100 of 1,400 cops. That doesn’t seem too drastic but I wonder how many if the remaining 1,300 stay with the pay cut.

It's like having an army. 24/7 manpower need, logistical and Administrative support.

Wait for the sudden announcement of retirements coming out of the 1300 cops left. Being a cop in Seattle in a few months, working 12 hour days won't look attractive at all in the short term.

Thank God you aren't running a manufacturing plant.

They cut 1% of the police budget!!! Every city and state in the country are going to be cutting their budgets.

Plus she’s not doing a great job

That's like saying Pawl isn't doing a good job at the BRPD. Police chiefs in these democratic strongholds are only ALLOWED to do so much by their superiors (Mayors and councils).
IMO, she did a great job with what she had and with zero support from above. I think we will be fitting her for a coat soon.

I can’t speak for Washington but, generally the process to become a certified LEO is pretty long and difficult. Once they run off large numbers of officers, it will be very difficult to build that force back. I figure this defund/downsize police movement will run its course in about a year. By the time they realize how badly they’ve screwed up, they won’t be able to refill the ranks. They will then need to lower standards and hire basically anybody.

This happened in Miami back in the late 80’s. They actually hired officers with criminal records. The agency was plagued with corruption and uncomfortable many years as a result.

I actually think their Chief did the best job she could. Her hands were tied by their lunatic politicians.

She was way over paid, didn't have the proper skill set for the job.

I wonder what the demographics are of the 100 LEO's that are being fired.

My somewhat liberal bil and his extremely liberal gf live in Seattle. Their fb cover photo is them with blm masks on holding up the black power fist. We are all supposed to be going on vacation around Labor Day. I can’t wait to have a lively debate with these two! Especially now that Seattle has achieved defunding police and they’ll have experience a few weeks of less police and I’d imagine a huge uptick in crime. They live 3 blocks from where Chaz was. He went to Catholic and grew up in a upper middle class household. Neither one has any idea what they’re in store for. Never a better example of be careful for what you wish.

Black female police chief? She can write her ticket, let’s be honest.

If this was a white dude, he’d probably have to relocate to Midwest or South.

If you wrote down the scope of work a police department does as if it were a private company providing the service, 285K to be CEO isn't enough, anywhere.

Chief Best is resigning to set up her discrimination lawsuit. Her male predecessor will have been paid more due to the proposed cuts. She will end up being paid her salary, retirement, and damages.

Trump should just create some sort of antifa task force and give her a job on it just to watch the demoncrats melt.

The size of the salary is proportional to the amount of crap she had to deal with regularly IMHO.

Seattle has had somewhat regular “protests” like this since the WTO conference in the late 90s / early 2000s. It may be the size of other markets but it had far more bullshite to deal with than comparably sized markets.
