While it is admirable for Scott to convert, he didn’t do enough good works in his life to warrant passage through the gates

Remember the story of when Christ was on the cross and the thief who was on the cross next to him said “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”?

And do you remember what Jesus said to the thief? He said “Truly, I say unto you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

What works did the thief do to warrant passage through the gates?

But he did say he respects people who believe enough to try and convert him. I'm not in his head, but suspect this is partly his way of honoring those friends. I do not for a SECOND think Scott fears hill be denied entrance to the Heavenly Clubhouse if he fails to pledge "yeah Christ, you da man!".

isn't that the tenant of Christianity, that no matter how close to the end you can be forgiven of your sins, if you truly repent and believe.

You’re right; there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain in the choice he’s making. By any definition that’s the correct choice.

But you’re calling him a moron for making the right choice.

You are saved by faith....not what you do.

Given number of threads started on this, he appears to reject the doctrine of security.

I don’t blame people for making some version of a Pascal’s Wager (even in simplistic form). If faith were perfect it wouldn’t be human faith.

You are saved by Grace, not by works for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

There is not a single work of any magnitude, or an amassing of works of any magnitude that earns forgiveness. Forgiveness was given to us, those that have Faith. Faith that was instilled by the Holy Spirit.

It is Pascals Wager. Well theologically shallow. It is enough for many people to walk the road to/of faith

Two, souls in purgatory are saved souls.

Purgatory is a man-made illusion made up by the Catholic church to make money off poor deceived relatives of the deceased---if they pay the church, they'll attempt to "pray them out of purgatory". it exists nowhere in scripture as only heaven and hell are the two destinations.

I'd like to disagree, but can't.

Obviously, from what I have seen occur within a few short minutes, do we need to start naming churches after Pascals Wager? Maybe let true believers sit on one side and the PW types sit on the other. Would love to see what that looks like.

Do you believe only pure souls can enter heaven?

Conversion to Christianity isn't just nominal affiliation. It's a true heart-faith that trusts in what Jesus did on the cross to forgive sins.
