As an infectious disease physician, can you confidentially say when Florida was at risk of overrunning their healthcare system?

Still very sad about Matt Gaetz’s personal life - I wanted to believe

DeSantis is fairly well liked by the other side of the aisle here. The ecology people like him quite a bit.

Gaetz on the other hand creeps everyone out with his adopted son/boyfriend he keeps locked in a closet.

It was certainly a realistic possibility in March/April. In hindsight, only a few specific regions of the state were genuinely at risk for this occurring and thankfully it never occurred due to various factors (some of which were the smart decisions by DeSantis, some just fortunate circumstance).

Dude has been a LEADER throughout this entire pandemic. Proud as hell to have voted for a local leader who took his job seriously.

He’s positioned himself nicely if he ever gets a mind to run for President.

What's scary is that a 3-term US Congressman with a BA from Yale, a law degree from Harvard holding a Lieutenant Commander rank in the Navy Reserve had to squeak out a victory in the Florida Gubernatorial election against a corrupt mayor with BA from FAMU and a history of character issues by 49.59% to 49.19%. Unfrickingbelievable.

DeSantis Noem 2024

I like them both, but not a fan of a dual governor ticket. A governor at the top needs someone with foreign policy experience at the bottom.

I would prefer a Rand/Noem ticket.

Not sure how many will get this...but i remember when the left tried to make this a thing
Oh I remember! I was on pins and needles on Election night. I knew how close it was and I was fearful for our state.

Desantos has been very solid during this whole Covid thing. Glad he has lead this state through all this fear mongering that MSM has created. That's my governor

He opened up in increments. It’s not like he was committed to each successive step; he could have just tightened up if the data suggested things were heading for trouble. In that sense, these decisions were NOT risky. And no offense intended, but no amount of infectious disease schooling is necessary to understand what were very simple statistics.

I had this disease figured out one week after we shut in. Analyzing the Diamond Princess gave me a high confidence that herd immunity would be reached when no more than 30% of the population had been infected. The reinfection possibility was always a joke (at least in the short term). And the fatality rate was far less than 1% (2% was being reported as the low end at that time). This is why I jumped on a plane and went on vacation after three and a half weeks of lockdown.

The smartest thing he did was to have all of the state road crews out fixing the roads during the lockdown.

Got roads done and fixed in a couple months that would have normally taken years.
