The pragmatism you're asking about was intentionally limited by the limitations on government (including the specifically articulated rights) included in our Constitution.

Pragmatism is fine within the boundaries of these restrictions.

The discussion is moving towards one of those boundaries, hence my comment about the amendment process

This is similar to arguing that since machine guns are banned, that we should accept other infringements on the second Amendment like bump stocks, magazine capacity limits, assault weapon bans, etc.

Doubling down on tyranny isn't a justification for that new tyranny

Correct, and it's already been determined that certain things can be restricted, we're just talking about adding another thing to that list.

I'm not saying we should do so casually, but weighing the positives and negatives on this one ends up pretty lopsided IMO.

Man, they're gonna have a lot of time to fill in those commercial breaks. I'm sure some pharmacies can teach them how to fill things. They have plenty of practice.

"Does your back itch, sometimes? Introducing Backscratchezzlia: An FDA approved, once daily medication for those annoying, unwanted itches that could easily be handled with a back scratcher. With Backscratchezzlia, you won't have to do anything, except spend money, and deal with side affects such as rashes, fever, vomiting, and suicidal thoughts. If you have any of these symptoms, call a doctor immediately, and get another prescription with a whole new set of problems to get another prescription for... Backscratchezzlia: Isn't it time you got your life back?"

I won't miss these.

That's moving the boundaries

You can see the sincerity in the negatives by the NPC talking points. If they had legitimate arguments as to why these are bad they wouldn't have to rely on stupidity like calling it a bribe or framing it as a way to attack the opposition.

It has been a long time, but was the previous ban not overturned under the First Amendment?

Semantics, but not to me. The principle already exists, the drugs are already regulated out the wazoo (not well, but they are regulated), and I'm having a difficult time finding the harm. By definition (and more government regulation) consumers can't even buy these directly, so what is the point of advertising?

Oddly enough I don't use those when evaluating something.

Pharmaceuticals are already heavily regulated. The cow has left the barn on this. Unless you want to do away with prescriptions and just give out all drugs and medication at will, then you can't claim "freedom" in this discussion.

only a fat basement dweller like you would consider not marketing potentially dangerous, highly regulated drugs directly to people who cant buy them without a physician's examination and direct prescription, "tyranny". Maybe we should let Boeing market their fighter jets directly to the people so Bubba can badger his congressman about pwning the sand gingers while we're at it.

and what a wildly convenient and loose interpretation the left is suddenly and magically taking on free speech. It fun to watch.

Thank God. If I see one more overweight woman dancing around to get an injection.

Or the ladies in granny drawers sitting on the toilet and proudly walking around in the bladder leakage preventive underwear I am going to scream.

"Nothing is everythiiiing ing ing"

Now stop the spammer calls changing their number to your area code to fool you.

It is a legitimate argument that news stations treat pharma companies with kid gloves because of the business model dependency that has built up throughout the media ecosystem. And that the collective health of the American public has suffered significantly because of that relationship.

Just because you refuse to acknowledge a plainly stated argument doesn’t mean that it’s an invalid one

this is what fatlock is really upset about. He didnt give 2 shits about speech when they were banning conservatives from the socials, fricking with their tax filings, and flagging them at the FBI.

He'll be the first one to point out how speech is indeed regulated when something like the above pops up in the news cycle.

Please let this happen. A person can't watch TV, especially at night without seeing multiple commercials about drugs with ridiculous names and a list of potential side effects that should scare you from even considering taking it.

"Take just one pill nightly of Zicoform and you'll sleep like a baby"

"However, potential side effects could include urinary incontinence, severe flatulence, migraines, impotence, anal leakage, dry mouth, eye twitching, etc."

I smell a huge 1st ammendment lawsuit coming, but there is also already precedent by banning smoking commercials.

Will love to see people use the "but smoking kills people and prescription medication does not" argument.

Strange reaction to a poster considering First Amendment concerns.

What other speech would you ban, because it annoys you?
