Dude. You’re a lawyer. You think codifying it eliminates Supreme Court oversight?

Of course not. But if a case were to overturn Obergefell, this statute wouldn’t necessarily be struck down in the process. Nothing is full proof, but this helps.

Government is supposed to be separate from religion but now they want to end religion and they want to take away your right to practice yours! Sigh…nobody is taking away your religion. Continue to marry or don’t marry whoever you wish.

Good.

Looking forward to the day when we pass the 'Respect for Christian Marriage Act'.

True. And I am all for gay marriage. I have a sister who is married to a woman and a stepdaughter engaged to a woman. I just don’t see the value in this bill. It doesn’t really change anything. It just gives liberal judges a sliver to violate religious rights. I hope I’m wrong.

I hope you’re wrong too as I really don’t support any religious rights being trampled on here. Hopefully people don’t try to abuse what is, on its face, a good bill.

I was only joking...but some a-hole on MSNBC earlier said that interracial and gay marriage is now legal. I guess married interracial and gay couples can finally stop hiding in their attics Anne Frank style.

That would outlaw no-fault divorces. Be careful what you wish for

I can see this is an over reach into marriage by the federal government.

I can definitely see that argument.

This would be my preference, as well, in a perfect world. Just no realistic path for that to happen (short of theocratic takeover, which would only benefit whichever religion were able to impose their will), and it'd create more problems than it'd solve. Ergo, gotta take/bandy about legal steps such as these to validate marriage contracts in the eyes of a free, secular gov't.

said the same about DOMA.

I appreciate the consistency I was too young to grasp the ramifications of that one at the time, but I'd like to think I'd have adopted a similar stance.

Divorce should be outlawed in general.

That way people might actually think seriously about the person they're with before they get married. Divorce is also a burden on the children who have to go through it and often inflicts psychological damage on them.

The less religious we become, the worse society gets.

This Bill WILL be used by Democrats and their bought and paid for Judges to harass and or deny Christians their Constitutional rights at some point, absolutely.

You don't seem to get it.

The words contained within the Bill DO NOT MATTER.

Democrats WILL ignore and twist the words to fit whatever Jihad they are on at the moment and use THIS BILL as justification.

The Media and Leftist idiots like you will agree, the GOP will cower in fear and the Constitution will be further raped.

Democrats and their Activist Judges can go on vacation in the Bahamas, walk along the beach, turn over a random rock and on the bottom of that rock, find language to support their extreme abortion views, why would this be any different?

No, I'm just pointing out that Democrats are lying, traitorous pieces of dog shite and that Laws don't matter when they are on a Jihad.

Bills are only as good as the people who enforce them and adhere to them after they become Law.

Democrats are garbage humans, they won't adhere to the wording of this Law, they will twist it.

Remember, Democrats find Abortion Rights wordings in fortune cookies...

You're pretty stupid btw....
