It’s the inevitable consequence of only learning about guns through movies. Nobody who has any actual comfort level with guns and using them thinks this way.

I’ve been around guns all my life, was taught initially by my grandfather and uncle who were both marksmen in the marines, have a CHL and visit a range at least twice a month even now. I consider myself a pretty good shot. At a distance of ten feet, which is nothing in terms of having to fire at an attacker, I doubt I could hit a moving extremity (arm or leg) more than once in 10 attempts especially in the heat of the moment. Maybe a thigh if they were running straight at me? I would NEVER trust myself to even attempt that, and moreover it probably wouldn’t neutralize the threat. I’m gonna put 3-4 in your chest or gut and be the one to walk away.

You shoot them until they stop doing whatever they were doing to threaten you or someone else. If they catch a few extra on the way down that’s not my concern. In the time to takes too shoot once, assess the situation again and then fire again they could easily kill someone.

There’s a reason why victims of crime who get shot survive more often than perpetuators of crime who get shot do. Someone who gets shot while being victimized is often shot just once in the process of fighting back or fleeing (often accidentally) and the perp then flees. Victims and cops who shoot their attackers are shooting specifically to stop the threat.

Come on now. LEO’s are trained to shoot multiple rounds. One of the main reasons being that they may not be able to disable or stop a suspect with just one shot. LEO’s are taught to shoot center mass because it’s the biggest target and to shoot to kill. When cops use force they mean it because lives may depend on it.

You can die just as quickly from a shot In the leg.
