Nixon. Mixed bag. Snagging the Chinese away from the Soviet sphere of influence was a major turning point in the Cold War. Sure, it gave rise to what China currently is, but they're boxed-in geographically and pose less of a threat than people think.

Militarized the police, tripled the National debt, increased government spending by 65%, released the bullshite “A Nation at Risk” propaganda that started “school reform” initiatives that have undermined public education in this country, doubled the country’s prison population despite declining crime rates, etc etc.
