Senator goes to hospital specializing in needed surgery where he will pay out of pocket for his care.

Very uninteresting...

Amazing in a free country you can choose where to get treatment unlike countries like the UK with socialized medicine that let kids die instead of trying a new procedure somewhere else

This!

Freedom to Choose whether to have that procedure or not? Freedom to Choose the best Specialist for that procedure?

I would think Mr. Wiggles would be all about Choice?

One private hospital does not a healthcare system make.

Overall Canadians have a poorer healthcare system.

You should really think about laying low for a few days.

OP's last comment 6:51 pm.

He disappeared rather quickly after being manhandled on his "Gotcha Mean Conservatives" attempt.

This is very interesting. I thought conservatives and Liberatards said Canada's healthcare was awful with long waiting lists. I guess he likes how Canadians live longer than us and pay less for healthcare as measured by spending on healthcare as a percentage of GDP.

The fact that you think this is an actual story that matters shows me why you believe in the crap you post here. The Obama and Pelosi have walls points the right makes is a much better point but just as stupid and pointless IMO.

My statement was in regards to this one facility. Yeah I'm sure a person would have to wait a little bit as a walk in but that's not a big deal

Canada is a place where socialized medicine can work, though. It has fewer people than California, and is nearly complete racially, ethnically, and culturally homogenous.

Cultural homogeneity is a HUGE benefit as far as healthcare costs are concerned.

Vast cultural and ethnic diversity, as well as the cost of getting drugs to market, are 2 of the leading factors that exacerbate US healthcare costs.

Neither of those would go away, if the US went single-payer.

He's a US citizen, and he's still paying out of pocket for the procedure. Hence, the notion that he's going to Canada to benefit from socialized medicine is abject nonsense.

He's searched for the private hospital that has the best mix of price and expertise for the specific procedure he needs. If that's not the free market at work, I don't know what is. What it isn't is an across-the-board demonstration that government subsidized hospitals and socialized medicine are the best solution for America's healthcare woes.

Your commentary is as asinine as the OP's.

Walk-in. . .it doesn't mean you get a procedure the same day.

I can walk in requiring spinal surgery. . .they will then schedule me or put me on the waiting list

Whoa Einstein.
Rand knows more about this topic then nearly any combination of 100 other DC politicians and/or bureaucrats. He certainly knows more about it than do you.

Your presumption is that this facility works under the same model as standard Canadian facilities. It does not. Your presumption is very poorly informed. Reduced wait times AND no requirement for referral exemplify that.

Shouldice is far more akin to the Surgery Center of Oklahoma than to standard Canadian facilities.

For some reason, everyone around here loves backbreaking healthcare costs and donating huge chunks of their salary to hospitals and pharma companies.

It has to be a private hospital or he would be waiting for a couple years to get in.

do you know anything of out physiology. The human body survives longer in colder climates. Look at the life expectancy of civilizations from the equator north. you will see as you get closer to the poles life expectancy increases.

Canadians have a higher life expectancy. That's how you judge healthcare systems. What's your measure?
