Racism and Poverty Are Silent Killers in America. Literally.

If something systemic feels bad and wrong and unfair—so bad that it makes your body react by coping with constant stress—it should follow that it's not great for your long-term health, right?

Science would seem to agree with this common sense. As reported by NPR, overall life-expectancy trends in the U.S. and research into a phenomenon called "weathering" are supporting the idea that people of color are more likely to have worse health outcomes and shorter lives due to racism and poverty.

The research leans on figures from 2020, when life expectancy dropped 1.5 years in the U.S., but even more for Native Americans (a 4.5-year drop) and Blacks and Hispanics, who lost three years of life expectancy. How did White people fare? They were below the average, losing only 1.2 years. Must be nice!

Culture that believes that "bad is good" can result in poverty and early death.

So can living in places where being murdered is 10X more likely, thus dragging the overall life expectancy numbers down.

And everyone is free to leave those places and be safer.

Nah, I doubt they spend too much on suppressors. I don’t think you can get a Hi Point with a threaded barrel anyway.

The epidemic of extreme lead allergies in the inner cities is what is killing POC. Ingesting lead from the barrel of a gun is lethal sometimes.

Funny as having money doesn’t equal being a decent human being that respects life and others around them.

Noticeably absent from mention: Asians.

My guess is they're fairing better than whites, and again, blow up progressive's bullshite theory.

Yep.

Being educated and intelligent is “acting white.”

Prison time gets you street cred.

Having multiple kids with different partners is acceptable.

Being on welfare is not considered shameful.

Disputes between individuals is usually settled with extreme violence.

5% of 12% = 50% is a fact.
It is ignored but fact none the less, and is the problem.

Is it a “silent” killer if I hear about it every day?

You know the great thing about circumstance? It can change and/or be changed.

I completely agree that not everyone starts from the same starting blocks. Some families have had a half-dozen generations to build those starting blocks for the future generations. Some have been stuck in the cycle of poverty or impoverished areas. Those chains are not easy to break.

But, if you’re going to break them, it has to be a discussion about the individual, not the “system”. There is no fixing that without the individuals “stuck” making an active choice to remove themselves. It has to be a conversation about culture, motivations, and family values. You cannot have kids grow up in a culture that glorifies criminal lifestyle and expect them to not be influenced by it. If the culture and the community start holding themselves to hire standards, only then can they collectively rise from poverty.

There’s a reason not all minorities experience the same challenges generation after generation. Asian Americans were put in containment camps and stripped of their assets barely 75 years ago. And yet, somehow, they are the most prosperous ethnic group in the country. Why is that?

If by racism you mean black American's propensity for blaming all their problems on white people, then yeah, I'd agree 100%.

Here is a better article from NPR about obesity in black women.

"Obesity in America is a problem across the racial spectrum. But columnist Debra Dickerson suggests that African-American women are more inclined to be overweight because African-American men prefer them to be so."

So now it's white people's fault that black men prefer obese women???
