As expected, 90% of the responses in ths thread are internet wannabe badass puffery. Not one person in a thousand would actually engage in self-help punishment, but every last such person in Louisiana appears to be present in this thread.
Correct answer? No person intimately-acquainted with the victim should EVER assess the punishment for such a crime. It is an invitation to step over the line separating “impartial enforcement of the law” from “emotional vengeance.”
I would WANT to kill the bastard, which is why I should NEVER be given that opportunity. Rape is a terrible crime, but it does not merit execution.

This is a complicated question.
1. If the perp was a stranger who kidnapped her and raped her?
Death.
2. If the perp was an acquaintance who spiked her drink or took advantage of her while she was unconcious?
Life in prison no parole.
3. If it was a date rape type of event where they were getting to that point and she said stop and he pushed it too far?
10 years in prison with no parole.
4. If my daughter was a psycho who accused a boy of rape because he hurt her feelings?
Fortunately, I have a stable daughter and this would not happen.
But I also have a son who could get falsely accused of #3 or falsely accused of #4 - so that makes this a hard answer.

I simply don’t see the correlation in this…I think the death penalty is more of a disincentive to commit the rape in the first place.

In Louisiana, inappropriate touching can get you up to 165 years.
To this day I still have not looked to see if an article came out with the actual sentence the defendant received for the case I was on. I don't want to know. This state has issues and is not set up to give the defendant every benefit of the doubt.

There was a time and place where a person who raped another was just fed to the hogs and no one would mention his name again.
I've served on a jury here at the 19th 3 times. The judicial system wastes an incredible amount of time. A simple trial on illegal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon took an entire week when it could have been wrapped up in two days.
As far as a man raping a woman/man he should get the max time. When he exits the prison doors as free man I would be waiting for him.
