You have your city in your profile. If someone wanted to, they could find this trial in 30 minutes of googling.

I sat on a jury of a guy accused of raping his 13yr old step daughter. After listening to the prosecution tell her version of the story I was looking at the guy thinking he was going to spend a very long time in prison. The guy was a pretty big dude and intimidating looking. Also looked like someone who would do something like that. I won’t go into the multiple details of the trial but it was very obvious after everyone had had their say that the guy was not guilty and was being railroaded by a vindictive ex wife and a overzealous prosecutor with eyes toward being a district attorney. She did end up being a DA but not the kind she wanted.

Hogwash.
My question stands.
What is the appropriate punishment?

Is this a way to be dismissed from jury duty?

I’d imagine if you tell them you run all of your important decisions through the tigerdropping political board, it will probably do the trick!

I Learned a lot while serving on a criminal jury in Louisiana.

I learned how fricked up our process is in this state, and I learned some surprising things about people during deliberations.

Minimum of 20 years without any chance of parole.

As much of a joke as our justice system is, it still seems much better than the UK or Canada. It seems like you can literally kill someone there and not even do 7 years, in a lot of cases.

Being railroaded is one thing.

It happens regularly; and I’d die in a ditch to protect a person who is falsely accused of something s/he didn’t do.
Such plaintiffs ought to serve serious prison time.

Not the case here.

But

If you’re serving on a jury in which the defendant is obviously fricked up, what punishment do you deem appropriate for sexual assault against a minor?

Do you mean you are sitting on a criminal court jury and are seeking advice from this group? You need to get off that jury now or you will give the defendant legitimate grounds to have his conviction overturned if this is ever found out.

Just curious.

That’s all.

I’m stunned by various opinions.

I think the father should get to decide the punishment with no restrictions.

I would be very careful with what you challenge this board to find out.
