Well, I'm basing it on demographic indicators and probabilities, but people aren't aware of HCM/HCOM and don't know how common it is. I've played and watched soccer for a long time, and I'm in the medical profession, so I'm better positioned than most to give more weight to certain assumptions over others. The fact that an autosomal dominant condition like HCM/HCOM affected a brother and sister who are in the demographic where HCM/HCOM is highly likely to cause sudden death, makes it far more likely a possibility than vaccines. Even the vaccines association with myocarditis is more remote than viral causes of myocarditis, if you want to go that route, as up to 10% of viral infections can cause myocarditis, with the classic board question relating to a new parent with a child who presents with Coxsackie A or B (more likely B if I recall) having myocarditis, getting it from their infant who presented with flu-like symptoms previously.

We generally give more weight to certain assumptions based on other characteristics, epidemiology, presentation, timeline, and thus can assign probabilities according to that framework. Vaccination could be a cause, but it would generally be lower on the totem pole. But people are emotional about all this, and can't think through differentials clearly.

Exactly. I tried breaking down the thought process for how we determine differentials, although I don't really think about that anymore. The mere association with sudden death in athletes and other keywords reads like a board question.

There have been plenty of adverse reactions in the US, too. Maybe these deaths are from the vaccine, maybe not. But anyone who doesn't have their head lodged firmly up their arse can see that the vaccine has caused numerous negative side effects. And no one who isn't a POS supports forcing medication on others.
