Potential Diesel Export Ban: Who to Believe

Trump is supposedly making decisions on this this week. Looks like all the O&G companies are begging him to not do it…. But his base is looking for relief and an America First policy.
Do we think this would be a disaster or the correct move?

Generally, government meddling in markets makes things worse.
A lot of the prices we see now are due to meddling.
On the other hand, looking out for number 1 is not a bad argument.

Short term? By artificially influencing the markets. Long term? It likely doesnt unless it is coincidentally accompanied by some other significant market mover like an end to Ukrainian/Russian hostility.

Trump has never shown to me that he understands crude oil and refining.
He pissed off US EPC firms who had other refinery projects awaiting funding when he made the big announcement of the Indian built (made in India) and backed refinery for Brownsville when the products will be all for export.

I'm sure this won't impact the US economy at all in the long term. Seems like a fantastic idea that shouldn't have any long term negative consequences. Thank you Mr. President.

His base doesn’t want high gas prices but most of us in the real world aren’t crying on a message board. We also understand other factors of why it’s high including Ukraine bombing Russian facilities causing a further shortage and pinch.

This is why it’s a bad idea.
US Refineries are maxing out diesel production to take advantage of the pricing. The distribution system/facilities for domestic and foreign sales are not the same. Both are maximized right now so if foreign exports are cut there is literally no where to put the diesel. So they will be faced with containment issues that will result in the slowing down of production of diesel which means slowing down production of gasoline as well. This will result in shortages which will drive prices up further. Go to the API and AFPM websites for more information. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
