Laid off in Sept 2008. Went home and all over the news was Lehman Bros going under and the start of the panic.

I knew I was f*cked.

My husband has been laid off on five separate occasions in 30 years. Four facility/business closures and one RIF. Shortest time between jobs was three weeks, longest four months. It absolutely sucks, but it made us stronger as a couple.

Have been laid off, also oil and gas. I have no problem with the layoffs. What gets me is so many people getting enjoyment out of someone losing their jobs because they are perceived to be on the enemies side for daring to work in government. Pretty insane we’ve gotten to this point as a country.

Yep. Guy hired me away from another company then laid me off 4 months later because he didn’t have enough work. I was WTF! Why did you hire me away to just lay me off that fast. Had a new job with a raise in 2 weeks.

Happened to me. Gut punch. Found a better full time job. Re-enrolled at LSU and did night school for two years. Graduated and then moved into my career. Ultimately turned out to be a great thing to happen to me.

Yep, laid off twice in the 90's. Joined the military and went to college, everything worked out.

I had a run where 4 companies in a row downsized after being acquired. I moved doing contractor work and did simple retail between gigs. Now I sit in an office and work for a Fortune 500 in a recession proof, merger proof job.

Laid off from from Pizza Hut after graduating high school.

Got a Mohawk along with a friend. They said it was unsanitary. Couldn't come back till it grew out.

Was leaving for boot camp in 5 months so just partied alot and didn't think about going back.

I've been fortunate to not be on that side of a layoff. I can say as someone who has had to layoff people I've never seen anyone go about it with the glee doge and it's supporters have about it. These are usually hard decisions that no one wants to make but have to be done to protect profit margins or as a consequence of a lost sales/lost potential sales we scaled up for.

I’m not saying that feds shouldn’t be exempt from lay offs but the protections are in place to keep layoffs from becoming politically motivated. When you get lead scientists and attorneys whose jobs become politically motivated thats when we have larger problems at hand.

In the mid 70's I was working at a custom woodshop, we made anything & everything contractors and customer wanted. Business started slowing down so a couple of the newer guys had to be let go. About 2 months later got a call from the owners wife, guy committed suicide. Went into the garage with a hose, started the car and bam.

These gov people keep leaving out a very important part they seem to always forget to mention when they are crying

They get full salary until September 2025

That’s the most generous layoff in the history of layoffs

If you believe they will see that money, I have a bridge I would like to sell you.

You are not entitled to a job, regardless of performance or the mission of the company/department you work for.

You are an input that should lead to some output.

That's it.

And sometimes even when you produce that output, you get let go.

Tough luck.

Losing a job is a miserable experience. I know. I lost one I had no business losing for refusing a fricking COVID vaccine.

But the "woe is me" mentality of people losing their jobs I have no sympathy for. Go find another one.

It's also a good lesson that every 2 years you should be making connections as if you did need a job. See what's out there. Even if you never leave.

I was "laid off" from a county government job on my second day at that job, because they decided they didn't want me because I didn't have my driver's license yet, even though I was scheduled to get it that same weekend. There were four-man road teams in every county truck, so it's not like I couldn't have just rode along for a couple extra days before taking my turn as the driver for the day.

Turned out to be a blessing. Started my current job the following week and have been here for 25+ years.

Laid off three times in my 34-year career.

First time I was in my 20s and much more into partying than work, so I understand.

Second time, the company merged and moved, offered me a job if I relocated with them, or a severance check. Took the severance.

Third time the company moved their focus away from my area of expertise.
