Her hollywood peers have been doing it for years.

How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she wrote.

She doesn’t even identify which side of the political aisle she’s referring to. She’s simply saying that letting this cancel culture go too far can lead to bad things.

Then they do exactly what she’s saying will happen.

I think she’s right. We’re headed in that direction. Might be another few decades, but I really think we’re in for a bad, tumultuous time in America.

The left does this all of the time. Remember when they complained of illegals being housed in centers instead of being released into the country? They compared that to concentration camps.

They proved her point and are too blind to realize it.

So it’s ok to marginalize the Holocaust as long as it’s directed at conservatives....

It wasn't marginalizing the Holocaust. It is a post that is a warning about were we are headed, if we don't stop.

If anything, it is holding up the horrors of the Holocaust as a historic warning of how bad things can get, how it happens and how quickly it can happen.

Welp, this made my choice to not continue the free trial of Disney+ easy.

Mandalorian was the only reason I even got the free trial.

he comparison of the early stages of what was done to the Jews (in Germany and Poland in particular) is EXTRAORDINARLY similar to what is happening with conservatives in America today.

Blaming: Conservatives dont blame liberals for whats wrong in America?
Dehumanizing: Conservatives dont use dehumanizing language?
Legally chipping away human rights: What rights of conservatives are being chipped away?

Unless I go on social media I dont see anything or encounter anything in my daily life that would make me feel marginalized or threatened as a conservative. And considering my circles I see a lot more bashing of liberal than conservatives.

Look I like Gina. Its sucks she got fired for what I would consider a bit of a hyperbolic statement. I cancelled my Disney plus sub last night. But this comparison of conservatives to Jews in the 1930's is way off imo.

You and others completely missed the nuance.

Everything she said is correct. No dispute with that. She could have just pointed out the historical part and finished with "That was terrible." and let people draw their own distinctions.

But she didn't, and then she made the comparison to the current climate, which I concede is also true. But to the Jewish people, NOTHING compares to the Holocaust and anything stated in comparison to it is automatically dismissed because they can't accept ANYTHING in comparison to it or in their mindset, it marginalizes the horror of the Holocaust. This reaction to any comparison made to the persecution of Jews has been ingrained into our society long before the current cancel culture. She should have known she was going to get fired for it and create a shitstorm for herself. You guys that are denying it are living in a bubble if you were unaware of this. I work for a company based in New York and have a number of Jewish clients. I would have been fired for doing what she did on social media. My Jewish clients, who purchase tens of millions of dollars in services and product, would have demanded it. That's just how it is and its been that way for a long fricking time.

I get what you guys are saying, but I'm seeing it as a visceral response from the Jewish community which is an overreaction, but that's just how they've always reacted to any comparison to the persecution of Jews.

Until you realize this was how THEIR holocaust began.... and it MAY just be worth noting before we continue down this path.

Stupid people do not understand the difference between COMPARING two things and EQUATING those two things.

No, I think it is you who are missing the nuance. The question is not whether what she posted is accurate or morally equivalent, the question is why was she fired for it when others (including her own co-star) made similar comparisons and were greeted by silence.

The issue here isn't an overwrought comparison to the Holocaust, the issue here is hypocrisy.

She didn’t even compared them. She said governments turning people against each other leads to violence. Which it does.

The entirety of Hollywood called Trump and all of his supporters NAZIs for 4 years. Not a single one of them faced a single repercussion.

I see all your other points, but this is where I think you're wrong. The Jewish people HAVE NOT always reacted this way anytime there is a comparison to their historical persecution. This is what I think you're missing here. Every example of a left wing person comparing Trump or the right to NAZIs WAS precisely a comparison to the persecution of the Jewish people. It's why the right freaked out about it, because the claim was so outlandish. If what you're saying here was true, each time that happened righteously indignant Jews should have been screaming about how the Holocaust was being minimized by the comparison being made by whoever was doing so on the left.

The problem is, that essentially never happened.

Now...if you want to say they ought to have kept quiet from a pragmatic standpoint because you can't speak up like this from the right and keep your job, yeah...while I applaud her actual balls here, I agree that this was always going to be the ultimate end game for her here.

She was fired...her speech was not restricted. If she had been supporting civil rights in the 50's she may have been fired back then too....we werent Nazi Germany back then either.

Yep.

If you see history starting to rhyme with current events, but you can't discuss it without being cancelled, then that's indeed evidence that history is starting to repeat itself in this case, lol.

Cancelling her was the dumbest thing Disney could have done.

It was actually. Her co-star Pedro Pascal has made similar comments in the past, comparing Trump supporters to Nazis and immigration facilities to Nazi concentration camps. He wasn't fired, she was. That's discrimination and wrongful termination.
