The problem with some of these things, and I'm not saying this is the case here is that many immigrants come here and want to make America a version of the country they came from. I am Latino but I was born in the United States. My father is from Mexico and a US citizen now. My mother was Cherokee Indian. My grandfather on my father's side was of course Mexican. He immigrated LEGALLY and brought his family LEGALLY. He always preached and my father did as well the importance of assimilation. Learn the language, the customs, the American way of life. He always told us he brought the family to the US because it gave his children (my father and aunts and uncle) the best opportunity for a successful and good life. He taught us the importance of learning the language and most importantly to learn proper English and lose the accent. I'm catholic Christian and love this country for the opportunities it has given me. I'm 56 now and went from poor low income to now living pretty darn well. I have a nice house, nice stuff in it, and we have nice cars. Three amazing daughters we put through college at LSU that are grown and successful. I firmly believe my success is because I assimilated into American culture. Learned the language and speak excellent English with no accent but can get down with my hommies from back home and speak perfect Spanish. Assimilation matters. My friends back home in El Paso that spoke broken English and wave the Mexican flag have not had the success I've had. I have had jobs and promotions that I know I would never have had if I didn't speak good English and was proud of the country I call MY country. Immigrants that come here LEGALLY and want to assimilate and BE American, I have zero problem with. The problem is that because of a certain political party that uses them as pawns in a political game they think it's OK to come here and try to make the great country you came to, just like the $hit country you came from. THAT is the problem. Christianity across the planet lifts people to be better and live peacefully with your fellow humans. So yes it makes me uneasy when people immigrate and start preaching the virtues of their particular religion. I don't want diversity in religion. Maybe that makes me a racist or a bigot, whatever you want to call it, but I'm one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I don't have to like your religion but I'm ok with it as long as you don't want to convert America into that.

I agree with everything you said.

My mom’s side of the family is the same story. Not from Mexico, but same principle.

Edit - only thing I’ll say differently is that freedom of religion was the foundation of this country. You can assimilate and still practice your own religion in your own way.

If the guy in Frisco is calling for segregating the Boy Scouts, then I’m against it.

If someone else is talking about assimilation then I agree with them.

If someone else is telling me that religion is the problem then I don’t agree with them.

What was this guy issue? What were the issues with assilimiation? Is there shaira law in Frisco or just more brown people?
