You can do that with a little finesse, though. You can think Trump was a good president and still recognize that some of his wounds were self-inflicted.

We don't live in the Reagan times. We live a very different USA with media set on forming opinion not reporting news.
It was not self inflected that the FBI worked with the media, the Dems and foreign agencies to bring down Trump.
It wasn't self inflected that Trump nominated a guy and the left went NUTS and LIED about the guy.
It wasn't self inflected that they had 2 impeachment trials on total falsehoods...
Screw you for even thinking he should have just been "above that".
The only "self inflected" move was when he decided to run! It has cost him a ton of money and he didn't take a single DIME as President.

By finesse I don't mean typical poli-speak and beating around the bush. Blunt is fine with me and you're 100% correct, it's the only thing that works.
By finesse I mean avoiding things like "I like vets who didn't get captured" or whatever he said. There is zero point and zero political gain to a lot of his insults, and he would be better served sometimes, not always but sometimes, ignoring the bait and therefore improving his image with the squishy middle. Their votes count just as much as mine and yours. I'm not talking character, I'm not talking being above or below anything, I'm just talking smart politics.
