One of the protestors recently shared 'how white people can fight racial injustice'. He is a white kid who went to Oglethorpe and from a very well-to-do family. What a waste.
Sounds about right.
That new "silence is violence" garbage is now the new front the lefties will push. If you don't go full-time activist railing against their cause de jour, it will be akin to burning a cross in some poor black family's front yard. Of course, when you ask why they don't rally full time for the plight of left handed, gender-fluid, Guatemalan yam farmers, they'll roll their eyes and say "you're not enlightened enough to understand what we're doing, you '(fill in blank)-ist'".

Are memewar veterans allowed to go?

You don't speak for me a-hole. I'm not in the energy industry and I love O&G.
Spend less time protesting and more time researching ways to make alternative energy cheaper than O&G. I support whatever helps my pocketbook

Absolutely. I'd add to that list, violence. I live near a reservation, and the court report is filled with cases of repeated alcoholism, domestic violence, and felony batteries.
Absolutely.
I've worked in/near reservations and their lifestyles basically relegate their life expectancy to around 50.
The messed up part is that, if you do work within their reservation, you have to either hire indian personnel or you have to pay a tax if you don't hire them. The biggest problem is that they always show up drunk to work at 8:00 in the morning. One of my clients (an industrial company) had to implement a 3 strike rule (which is completely against their standard policy) for showing up drunk to work. On average it took 3 days for those indians to get 3 strikes. But, then again, they didn't really give a shite because their basic necessities are covered whether they go to work or stay at home.
ETA:
If you want to see an example of how socialism fails, go to a reservation where the tribe has a very successful casino or other revenue stream. Addiction rates and domestic violence are extremely high and life expectancy is low despite the fact that some individuals make 6 figures a year just for breathing.

How does anyone know that they are actually vets?

What are they protesting at this point? The pipeline isn't even running through any reservation or burial grounds despite what has been reported, it's using the same right of way another pipeline is already using, they obtained all the proper permits, they put years of planning into this, etc
The pipeline is actually 95% complete. There is one section left which will be dug under a reservoir the natives use as their source for drinking water. It was at this point in the pipeline construction the Obama administration came in and "requested" construction be terminated until "further study".

OK, my brother (retired AF colonel) explained this to me. He said that it is a custom for Indians to join the military after HS, serve 4 years, and then get out. Many return to the reservation. Almost none choose the military as a career. So, these protesters are not a cross section of military vets. They are Indians.

Eminent Domain is problematic, RT; like any form of Government power or Power per se; apt to be corrupted, by the corrupt. A gun can be a great thing...as can eminent domain.

Headline will soon be: "2k Vets freeze to death in vain protest in North Dakota".
Saw on several channels early this week that Mandatory Evacuation of the protest has been ordered due to freezing weather. Several channels had video of all the camps already snow covered, bottled water stacks with icicles hanging off. Idiot "protestors" in the background playing on skis and sleds.
Weather expected to be so bad the local and state constabulary have essentially said: we've told you but we ain't coming back to save you dumb asses at risk of our own life and limb.
ND winters don't play.

Thank you for your service but all you vets are idiots. No offense.

In May 2016, farmers began suing the pipeline developers in an effort to prevent the use of eminent domain to seize private property for the benefit of the pipeline owners. There are 1,295 properties along the 346-mile route through Iowa.
As of November 2016, the owners of 17 parcels have sued over the fact that the State of Iowa has handed over 200 pieces of land under eminent domain laws.
While the pipeline owners have attempted to obtain voluntary easements in most cases, it appears that when negotiations for easements break down the pipeline developers resort to seizing the private property via eminent domain. Moreover, the use of eminent domain calls even the "voluntary" easements into question since it is quite plausible that the pipeline developers "encourage" the granting of the easements by threatening to pursue eminent domain seizures should the land owner refuse the easement.
In October, according to farmer Cyndi Coppola, pipeline developers trespassed on her farm in Calhoun County, Iowa and began digging up the topsoil for pipeline construction. Coppola was arrested on her own property for protesting the dig.
In spite of the blatant violation to private property that eminent domain presents, many conservative politicians — the same ones who claim to support property rights — also support eminent domain. Indeed, during the Republican debates this year, Republican candidates expressed unwavering support for eminent domain when pressed on the topic of oil pipelines.
I see nothing wrong with this. Unless, your answer is that all pipelines must be nationalized. Because that, and having no pipelines, are the only alternatives to the above.

FWIW all the kids I know doing this are the same ones who did OWS a few years ago.
IOW, pay them enough to buy a bag of weed and a case of Pop Tarts per week and they'll pretty much protest their own grandmothers.

Meh. I have a pipeline on my hunting property that I didn't really want. But I held out and got PAID even though they eventually started talking about ED proceedings.
Eminent domain is not new, and it serves a purpose when it benefits the public good. Otherwise we would not be able to build roads, bridges, utilities, etc.

Having a pipeline ROW run through your property isn't like someone using eminent domain to build a road. You essentially still own the property. They only thing you can't do is excavate there or build a structure on it. The pipeline companies maintain it and if there are any issues or problems, the company takes care of it and reimburses you.

How done are you with toxic oil and gas? Do you walk everywhere you go? Ride an electric scooter?
Where did the electricity that was used to charge his scooter come from? Most likely coal or natural gas.
If Obama had used the money that was WASTED on "green technologies" for R&D into changes that could be made to existing coal plants we would probably have very low emission plants right now. And a century worth of coal right her in America. And existing infrastructure to utilize it. Instead the greenies chased a pipe dream called clean energy.

Um, a gas distribution pipeline, yes. I was envisioning this pipeline as similar to other major crude pipelines, such as those in Alaska:

This tribalism and staying on the reservation crap has really been their downfall. Get off the fricking reservation and experience a better life, for goodness sake.
The real threat to Native Americans is not a pipeline, its the rampant alcoholism and suicide.

but 'Protesters include various Native American tribes as well as environmentalists and even actors including Shailene Woodley.'
I guess we really need to rethink this if an actor is opposed to it

Uh, no. The Alaskan pipeline setup is extremely rare. Normal pipeline ROW simply looks like the pictured ROW without the above ground piping.
