Property tax is absurd. I’m ok kicking in some Tex money, but your property shouldn’t be tied to mandatory taxes.
Lots of ways to create a better system. Start with reducing spending. You could make primary property tax free, then tax second homes and corporations buying homes.
It’s not an easy fix but it’s one you could figure out with a common sense approach. Bottom line, your primary home should never be tied to a requirement of making an annual tax payment.

I’m pretty sure Texas is considering it as well.

It's almost like they have to pay rent to the government, just to be able to enjoy their property.
This is where I differ. It isn't "almost like" it is rent 100%! And they can raise rates any time they want.

I agree somewhat. They need to cap it and have certain critiera attached like freezing it on seniors. IN reality, you shouldn't charge seniors and anyone without kids in the school should get a discount.
In texas , its the ISD that is out of control. it continues to go up, they continue to build multimillion dollar new schools, sports facilities, and keep charging residents that are not even in the district.
Even my daughter couldn't believe the middle school we passed by the other day.

There should be only one place the gov't gets money from you. And that one thing is should be either a flat income tax or sales tax. I don't want to ague which because either would be an improvement.
Either would require a tax increase to affect everyone. It would also help reduce the frog in the pot affect with rates.
No property tax.
No paying for a drivers lic. (you want to regulate it get it from the tax base)
No hunting or fishing lic. (you want to regulate it get it from the tax base)
No paying for an inspection sticker (you want to regulate it get it from the tax base)
No paying for a passport (you want to regulate it get it from the tax base)
No fees for building permits (you want to regulate it get it from the tax base)
Gov't Sop charging extra for doing your damn job.
No fees for FOIA. Put anything not classified on a public server so we can access it without having to jump through hoops.

You figure property taxes are built into the rental rates?
Posted on 8/18/25 at 5:33 pm to Bjorn Cyborg
They should be banned nationally for primary homes up to a certain level of value adjusted annually for inflation.

Id rather a politician come out with stopping h1b visas, and the refugees system. Deporting as many as possible to stop destroying this nation by getting breeded out.

If Ron made this his primary domestic issue in 4 years he will force the other GOP candidates to adopt the same stance on property taxes otherwise he will win the nomination. Property tax is the biggest theft we have in America.

I have to agree with you totally. No reason for people to be taxed on their property ownership. Folks that have worked their entire lives to pay for their home should not have to worry about tax entities taking the home they paid for with their sweat and blood for decades. They should be ashamed for ever starting that tax.

The complete tax system is a system of selective oppression against the middle class.

Which party is paying the tax the renter or the owner? You can’t have it both ways, one of the two is not paying taxes.
On paper the owner pays the tax. The renter should have skin in the game to help pay for govt services they use.

You pay it somewhere. In Texas they have no state income tax but have extremely high property taxes

Imagine wanting to keep footing the bill for public schools long after your kids are gone.
I’d rather have my money back and choose what to do with it.
