Johnny Carson was the best. Quick witted and he made fun of both sides but was also extremely respectful to people that came on his show. He was the king of late night. Probably leaned Dim but you couldn’t tell. His opening monologues were legendary. Truly hilarious.
the last great show on late nite

Also, a Democrat from back then would be considered Republican today.
Regardless, it's a good thing that we're left guessing, and probably Johnny played it that way on purpose. As opposed to what we have today, where every one of the late night hosts is obviously rabidly Democrat.
Lastly, just to put the specific number on record in this thread, Colbert was losing between $40 million to $50 million dollars every year. Colossal failure, one of the all-time worst money losers. Someone should ask Letterman what network or business could afford to lose $40 to $50 million dollars a year.

Late night is dead, no one watches it anymore. Other than live sports mainly the NFL and Playoffs for NHL, NBA, and MLB no one watches TV anymore. You have so many streaming options and so many series and movies that it has changed the way people consume media. Also networks have to compete with social media as well. I do not understand how they can't see this. Plus for a bunch of people who complain about the rich they sure cry about it when they get cancelled. Colbert's net worth is about 100 million, he will be fine.

well i see your back after being banned i guess we can expect sircuckstan incoming shortly. putting james woods in the same category with scott baio and kevin sorbo isn't really accurate you should probably just stick to sucking cox in public restrooms.
that's like comparing spencer tracy with henry winkler

Dave had some funny moments back in his day on NBC, but at some point he became an arrogant prick and has never left that zone.

Uh, podcast? Isn’t that the preferred platform of twatwaffle soy milk bros anyway?

I get the impression that Mr. Letterman considers himself and all talk show host to be the pillars of society that people depend on for moral clarity and life lessons. Give me a break. What a self-important douche Letterman has become.

He was the first of the late night guys to go political so he can blame himself for ruining late night TV. I once actually liked the guy before he went political.

Please raise your hand if you give a damn about anything David Letterman has to say or an opinion of.

Letterman also cast doubt on CBS’s claims that the show was cancelled for financial reasons.
Nobody was watching the show. CBS could put reruns of JAG or NCIS in there and get better numbers. This isn't rocket science, Dave.

Letterman had a pretty good show, but he became yet another left-wing mouthpiece the last several years and his show suffered.
1990s Letterman, along with 1990s SNL, were absolute peak.
I was a teen into young adult through the 90s (late Genx/Xennial) and I used to be very entertained watching the Letterman show every weeknight. Good memories, man.

What the frick is he babbling about?
Welfare. He’s talking about the owners of the networks writing monthly checks so that a few people who still enjoy Colbert get to see him. I don’t see why Letterman and Colbert don’t pay for it all.
