Ridiculous thought but is it maybe possible our military isn't as superior as we have all been told and that Iran is actually a threat to match us in combat? I'm grasping at straws here trying to make sense of this fiasco

Do you really think our military doesn't know how to defeat Iran's military?

With just conventional bombs from the air, i dont believe it is possible to pacify Iran, correct. There is no will or logic for anything more regardless of what they "know" or have planned. The military cant win, its not their fault necessarily. I 100% believe if they did think they could pacify iran with more bombs that the first 30 billion of munitions didnt do, they wouldnt be negotiating so weak and public like this, theyd be dropping more bombs. To specifically answer the quote, I dont know what "their military" means, I dont think their military on the surface was a threat before the first bombs dropped, I dont believe that was the objective to destroy some old equipment, facilities china can replace, and bury some entrances to other areas they can't get to from the air. I hope not anyway, Xi is lol'ing if that was the objective.

I give them more credit then some of you guys, this wasnt the plan: to drop 30 billion, have a new undefeatable, ambiguous leader that no one knows is alive essentialy allowing any actor to try control the country through proxy, still leaving them with ability to launch drones and missiles, leaving them with their uranium ,and now they have control of the strait. China will resupply everything else as soon as they put roofs up as I said before; theyll be back enriching uranium before 2027 is up. Its OK to say it didnt go according to plan.

I assume there will be at least a ceasefire by the time that MMA event rolls around. Also got the soccer World Cup coming here. I doubt Trump wants the cloud of Iran over those events

Will be even more interesting since Iran qualified for the World Cup.

Our military is vastly superior to Iran's. What the war has revealed, however, is that Iran's geographic strategic position, through its ability to destroy things like a $50 billion Qatar LNG plant with simple drones and short-range rockets, and its ability to close the Strait with no real pushback from China and others, is much greater than was thought before the war.

Our military is still by the far, the most effective force in the world. We are the only people who project strength like we do from the other side of the world. Iran was never a threat "militarily."

We arent in a conventional war with their "military". Our military has been placed into an unwinnable situation.

We'll see what the deal ends up being, but as we sit today and the dust is clearing from the kinetic phase, I sure fkn hope things didnt go according to plan.

When we sent the two destroyers into the Strait what did we use to destroy what Iran sent at them? Was this a test to see what would happen and how much of our arms did we use against them?

You have to realize how Iran has claimed the strait. Ships cant get insurance to sail through. There is no amount of bombing that will stop a single guy from taking pot shots at ships enough to where financially, it is feasible to sail through business wise. We can reduce their ability to fire missiles from 100% to 5% but if its still 5%, they still control the situation. They have now put enough mines out, that is is said it will take months to clear fully, we cant run mine clearing boats when theres still ambiguous threats underground.

Its not like they have troops lined up and are projecting control over the strait from the high ground. Our military can defeat every Goliath, but we arent designed to fully exterminate a tunnel full of rats down to the last rat from 30000 ft.

Probably SM-6's from the VLS or Sea Sparrow missiles--I believe I read that the closest approach was five miles so that is too far out for the Phalanx. Doubt they used the main gun either. They also could have used the helicopters depending on what they were dealing with.

Trump floated the USA insuring ships passing through strait which isn't a bad idea

CNBC reporting that Fars is saying the IRGC launched missiles in the South of the country "towards the Persian Gulf".
