And then Stopping Operation Freedom after a day or two gives a conflicting message that the US isn’t managing the Strait.

So anyone have a number of the deadlines that have been pushed back? 4? More?

It's not inconsistent at all.
Israel got him into the war, one he now wants out of bad but after all he's done to them Iran isn't about to let him take his ball and go home.

Every move Trump is making is with the midterms in mind. He knows that voters don't like the war and he wants to end it quickly. But he can't. The mullahs know this and are playing the long game.

OK, now it's starting to make sense. After all the damage he's done to them, Iran is leading Trump by the nose into doing more damage to Iran. And Israel, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the Democrats and the Europeans and Sir Keir Starmer are all in agreement about this, and presumably you since several of those names are your allies in this matter.

U.S. intelligence says Iran can outlast Trump’s Hormuz blockade for months
A confidential intelligence community assessment delivered to the White House also finds that Iran retains a substantial missile and drone arsenal.
May 7, 2026 at 11:19 a.m. EDT Today at 11:19 a.m. EDT
A confidential CIA analysis delivered to administration policymakers this week concludes that Iran can survive the U.S. naval blockade for at least three to four months before facing more severe economic hardship, four people familiar with the document said, a finding that appears to raise new questions about President Donald Trump’s optimism on ending the war.
The analysis by the U.S. intelligence community, whose secret assessments on Iran have often been more sober than the administration’s public statements, also found that Tehran retains significant ballistic missile capabilities despite weeks of intense U.S. and Israeli bombardment, three of the people familiar with it said.
Iran retains about 75 percent of its prewar inventories of mobile launchers and about 70 percent of its prewar stockpiles of missiles, a U.S. official said. The official said there is evidence that the regime has been able to recover and reopen almost all of its underground storage facilities, repair some damaged missiles and even assemble some new missiles that were nearly complete when the war began.
Trump painted a rosier picture in Oval Office remarks on Wednesday, saying of Iran: “Their missiles are mostly decimated, they have probably 18, 19 percent, but not a lot by comparison to what they had.”
Three current and one former U.S. official confirmed the outlines of the intelligence analysis, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.

The US created this leverage for Iran.
That's the allure of appeasing a violent regime who invade their neighbors and threaten global energy stability. Maybe, if you simply leave them alone, they'll stop their aggression and we'll live happily ever after. If you stand up to them, they might do something mean.

Apparently Saudi and Kuwait will reopen airspace. Looks like we smoothed over the issue. I imagine we have promised to respond to Iranian agression.

WSJ also reporting plans to restart the Project Freedom initiative.
Hopefully he's gotten the clue now. No more stoppages or ceasefires. We should do whatever we're going to do until they stop doing what they are doing.
If Iran wants to chat they can do it while we're opening the Strait, and if necessary, blowing shite up. This is the signal our allies appear to need now.
As I type this from my phone

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have reopened access to U.S. military bases and airspace, paving the way for Washington to resume escort operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
The restrictions were introduced after Gulf states grew concerned over possible Iranian retaliation and doubts surrounding U.S. security guarantees following recent regional attacks.
U.S. officials say the naval protection mission for commercial shipping could restart as early as this week.

I have not found any other sources confirming it yet but, apparently someone is attacking Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island again.

The military option would be back on the table if no deal is reached with Iran before US President Donald Trump returns from his China visit next weekend, Israel's Channel 12 reported, citing a senior US official. The White House expects to receive Iran’s answer to the latest US proposal on Friday, the report said.
No more fricking deadlines after this. If they don't budge.... turn em into blood and mud. It is ridiculous at this stage to keep extending this bs out further and further. We and Israel could end it now if not for whatever reason we keep playing Polly Peacemaker.

If true, those have been the UAE's targets of choice lately so it's probably them.

WSJ story about why the Saudis and Kuwaitis briefly withdrew permission for us to use their bases.
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have lifted restrictions on the U.S. military’s use of their bases and airspace imposed after the start of the American operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. and Saudi officials, removing a hurdle that had tripped up President Trump’s effort to move ships through the vital waterway.
The Trump administration is now looking to restart the operation to guide commercial ships with naval and air support that it had paused after 36 hours this week, U.S. officials said. It isn’t clear when that could happen though Pentagon officials gave a timeline of as early as this week.
The U.S. operation to force open the strait relied on an enormous fleet of aircraft to protect commercial ships from Iranian missiles and drones, making Saudi and Kuwaiti bases and airspace critical to its execution.
But the mission set off the biggest dispute in Saudi-American military relations in recent years, triggering a spate of high-level phone calls between Trump and the kingdom’s crown prince and raising the risk of a breakdown of a long-held security deal between Washington and Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait blocked the U.S. military’s use of their bases and airspace after senior American officials played down Iranian attacks on the Persian Gulf in reaction to the operation in the strait, Saudi officials said. The Saudis and other Gulf states were also concerned that the U.S. wouldn’t protect them amid the escalation in fighting, the officials said.
Trump had suspended the effort, called Project Freedom, on Tuesday evening, after a phone call with the kingdom’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in which the de facto Saudi leader conveyed his concerns and advised the president of the decision about base and airspace restrictions, the Saudi officials said. The president tried to get the Gulf leader to back down, they said. Trump said on social media that he had agreed to pause the initiative at the request of Pakistan and other countries.
Access to basing and overflight by U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia was reinstated after another phone call between the two leaders, according to U.S. and Saudi officials.
