I agree in principal.I put money in the college fund religiously for 20 years But One major caveat- certain schools WERE undeniably predatory in which companies they steered their students to. . I’ve read annd heard the stories . They were LITERALLY lied to by the lenders. Look it up, it’s scandalous . And so many of these people who were lied to have paid back FAR more than the principal and still owe a lifetime of payments. So just stopping in to say it’s not as ideologically clear cut as we make it out to be on this board.
Whaaaaa????? This is a federal student loan, no one has paid back a federal student loan "and owes a lifetime of interest", you need to lay off the acid my friend.

I guess you’ll have to suck the BBD for cash instead of gratis like you did in your dorm room, Mollllly.

The one and only thing I’ll agree with these type of people are “If we can bail corporations out of bad decisions and send billions in aid to Ukraine, why can’t they forgive our student loans?”
We have options for individuals who want help with education. It is called the GI Bill. Sign on the dotted line for Uncle Sam in the branch of your choice. Learn a trade in the military get credit for those courses, see the world in Uncle Sam’s dime, graduate college late in life or try taking online courses while serving. Stay longer than a few years, get mailbox money when you retire and work in the private sector. Best of all you can get free healthcare for life through Tricare and the VA.

MOLLY took out the loan KNOWING 100% the payment amount due each month and when it was due. Molly, once again made an extremely poor financial choice and has several month to LOWER her cost of living to meet the loan obligation!

How big a loan did she take out? I borrowed 25k for 3 years at MSU in 2010 after a year and a half in Juco on a football scholly. My monthly payments were like 200 a month
Students need to stop borrowing 6 figures unless they’re pursuing law or STEM degrees that will lead to jobs that can pay for it

Luckily I received a college scholarship so I never had to worry about paying for college tuition and books back then
I guess my question is - do kids who took our college tuition loans back then all think that they would never have to pay it back? I don’t understand why everybody is so fricking surprised that they have to pay back their touition.

They don't think it's fair that the banks took advantage of them when they were 18
What the problem is, is that kids are lied to by parents and universities that they have to go to college to succeed. Many of these kids aren’t smart enough to get a real degree. So they get an easy one but it costs just the same. It is somewhat unfair but not the lenders fault.
We need reform where there are limits to how much you can borrow based on your high school transcript and degree you’re pursuing. Unless you have a co-signer who shows they can afford it if you cannot.

Guess she needs to turn off the cell phone or either get a cheaper plan. Turn off the cable and internet or get a cheaper plan. Move out of the apartment she is in and get a cheaper one. Maybe trade down on a car that costs less. Maybe quit eating out. Start buying what you need and not actually want.
The problem with the young generation is they think these are necessities and not luxuries and don’t understand sacrifice in order to take care of your responsibilities. Imo if you default on a student loan you should have your degree revoked just like the bank takes your house and car. It gets reinstated when you get caught up on payments

Probably $250k minimum on loan, probably more, so you can be an independent writer and live in one of the most expensive cities in the nation.
This blows my mind. Read up on the lives of the most famous writers in history and about how broke they were (without student loans) and tell me how this makes sense. Something like the top 2% of authors are well off. A much higher percentage don’t make a living off writing, it’s just a side hobby

the problem with student loan repayment is the money doesn’t solve anything.

Molly jump started a semi-viral post by a guy who called her “I hate where I’m from” girl. She grew up in Tennessee and she hates white people.

One of her jobs out of college was copy editor. So you go to six years of school for close to $300k and you're proofreading someone else's material? How is that sane? That would be like going to engineering school so you could tighten screws on an assembly line.

They will extend it again just in time. For another election that is.

A lot of those people are going to just not pay the loans thinking they will help “bankrupt” the companies that loaned the money. Those dumbasses don’t realize though that the government will start garnishing their wages
Or their social security. I remember seeing an article about the first group of retirees having their checks withheld. They had worked an entire career without repaying their loans and seemed shocked the debt was being collected.

You voted for it Molly.
Molly apparently also chose to go to a college she couldn’t afford. Hope study abroad was fun since you’ll be paying for it until your 40.

Ideologically stupefied people shouldn't have majored in Marxist Interpretative Dance and related "fields of study."

You would figure all these liberal majors with a miniscule earnings potential other than in DC or Sacremento would know....
