That would be a better argument than trying to say bowing to a king is not in submission while saluting a foreign general is offensive.
There is in fact military protocol for Trumps actions.
No so for Obama. That's a difference. One could say Trump is doing so to try and make NK a friendly country which was part of his mission.

Trump returned a salute from a military offcer, because that is an accepted form of acknowledgment with a military officer.
Obama exchanged bows with a members of the Saudi and Japanese royal families, because that is an accepted form of acknowledgment among members of those families.
