This line right here is straight from the Chinese Communist Party.

What a shock, the new york times will believe a communist dictatorship over the POTUS. Shocked I tell you, shocked. NYT has not met a communist they did not like.

Some intelligence analysts are concerned that the pressure from administration officials will distort assessments about the virus and that they could be used as a political weapon in an intensifying battle with China over a disease that has infected more than three million people across the globe.
quote:.... and that bit is straight out of the mouth of CCP propagandists, something Edward Wong should be very familiar with.
and scientists who have studied the genetics of the coronavirus say that the overwhelming probability is that it leapt from animal to human in a nonlaboratory setting, as was the case with H.I.V., Ebola and SARS.
We are on the verge of economic World War vs China. These POS authors –– Mazzetti, Barnes, Wong and Goldman –– should all be called in for an FBI interview, or two, or three.

I guess by “will believe a communist dictatorship” you mean unequivocally accuse them of lying. Another quote from this article the OP leaves out, because it doesn’t fit their grievance narrative: “The Chinese government has vigorously denied that the virus leaked from a lab while pushing disinformation on its origins, including suggesting that the American military created it.” (Emphasis added)

Things we know:
Wuhan Institute of Virology was involved with EcoHealth’s gain of function experiments on Coronavirus.
Gain of function experiment funding from the US were stopped from 2014 to 2017 because of fear of accidental or purposeful misuse of a pathogen leading to really bad things.
The Coronavirus’ earliest known cases were in Wuhan.
The NIH has revoked EcoHealth’s grant.
A possible patient Zero, Huang Yanling, who worked at Wuhan IV, is missing. Her existence has been scrubbed from the website for the lab.
A researcher at the lab, Chen Quanjiao, initially made posts that animals from the lab were resold at the market.
Shi Zengli is one of the main Coronavirus researchers in the world. Her initial reaction when there was an outbreak of coronavirus in Wuhan was “could it have come from our lab?” She expected coronaviruses to typically arise in more subtropical locations.
There’s more.
Is anyone having trouble connecting these dots?

The idea is that it’s not a problem to have intelligence agencies connect dots, but they shouldn’t be operating with blinders either.

Sorry!
EVERYONE KNOWS this plague did not originate in Italy.
EVERYONE KNOWS this plague did not originate in the US Army.
Stating what EVERYONE KNOWS as fact is not an "unequivocal accusation."
It is a statement of FACT.
Calling it "disinformation" is softballing the truth. It is a national lie perpetrated by lying communists against the world! "Disinformation" is the equivalent of saying Charles Manson's efforts at the Tate residence were ill conceived.
Got it?
The accusations in that article are directed at the US, not China.
Its authors defend the Chinese narrative whole cloth.
They attack America and its search for truth of the virus origin. They undercut inevitable efforts to hold China accountable for world losses which it alone is accountable. These authors parrot, verbatim, CCP propaganda.

"unsubstantiated"
That was easy. Do you have any more stupid questions?

quote:Well if you believe China isn't telling the truth(I don't know anyone in their right mind who does) then we absolutely should be doing whatever it takes, including spy agencies, to get to the truth. Seems like simple logic to me.
WASHINGTON — Senior Trump administration officials have pushed American spy agencies to hunt for evidence to support an unsubstantiated theory that a government laboratory in Wuhan, China, was the origin of the coronavirus outbreak, according to current and former American officials. The effort comes as President Trump escalates a public campaign to blame China for the pandemic.

More than one million Americans have been infected, and more than 60,000 have died.

NYT's position on the issue of whether China or Trump is to blame for this pandemic is shared by many, many of our fellow Americans. Most of them are Democrats, too many of them hold positions of great power and influence in our country.
We must prepare ourselves for the eventuality that this propaganda campaign to persuade the US electorate that China is innocent and Trump is at fault will, at least in some measure, succeed. It's ludicrous, of course. China clearly allowed infected people to travel here. But, then again, I believe in the power of propaganda.

Do you have a fricking clue as to what you are arguing.
CV19 originated in Wuhan. It's presumed progenitor virus was hosted in a horseshoe bat located 900mi south of Wuhan. The HSB species' natural habitat terminates well south of Wuhan.
Nor are bats are sold in Wuhan. Bat have not been sold for consumption anywhere near Wuhan, much less in the Huanan Market. Pangolin sale is illegal in China. As with bats, there are no pangolins sold in Wuhan Markets.
HOWEVER, China has collected both corona virus and its bat vector in the wild. Their "scientists" transported those samples for collection, concentration, breeding, manipulation, and study in Wuhan Labs. Clear?
So there is no naturally occurring potential vector in Wuhan. Yet, Wuhan houses the greatest concentration of SARS-CoV derivatives and infected vectors on earth . . . . in a lab or labs.
Now then, how much ""pressure"" would need to be placed on US intel officials to pursue probability of lab origin?

Again, it takes a lot of logic pretzels to get to the point where you read an article that identifies a concerted Chinese disinformation campaign, and come away thinking the article accepts what China says as the truth.
The point of the article is that to have the best chance of finding the truth, the intelligence community should not be looking from only one point of view. In essence, the point is not about the conclusion itself, but reporting on the process of coming to a conclusion.
The argument is that the agencies are being pushed to value helping the president as more important than finding the truth. Of those two priorities, which is more important to you?

You don't need spies to figure out the origin.

The fact that they are printing this as an "argument" tells me all I need to know about them and you. If Obama was POTUS, this "argument" wouldn't even be considered.
We get it. You all want the commies to win to "own the cons". Keep up your good work.

They also had SARS leak from their labs in the past. Twice. This is not an isolated example.
