You need to give communism a couple centuries with capitalism funding to really give it a chance.

It’s a long term thing, but what might help them is if large numbers of jobs and wealthy people flee the city. That and the city continuing down the road to shitehole status. That should bring prices down. Helluva thing to have to wish for.

As long as people buy the dream of the "New York Experience", and they're willing to pay stupid money to do it, then dumb twenty-something will continue to pay 2 grand a month for a closet with a bathroom smaller than a port-a-potty.

Increase taxes on property owners and expect rental prices to drop. Makes sense

NYC should be going through the same work-from-home transition as every other metro area, and that includes converting office space to residential.

Add to that the exodus from NYC and they should have housing opening up.

-But- you can count on leftist policies to make everything more difficult and expensive.

Basic supply and demand. Why is this an “issue” for anyone. Don’t want to pay them move someplace else.

Omg have you seen Rolex prices recently!?! This is not fair!!!

I can't wait until they start renting out their doctors like Cuba.

Cuba's medical export program is one of its largest sources of foreign revenue. The Cuban government deploys tens of thousands of doctors and nurses to dozens of countries facing staff shortages. Host governments pay Cuba high fees, but the state retains the vast majority of the medical professionals' salaries.

Host countries pay the Cuban government directly for the doctors' services. Historically, the Cuban state retains 80% to 95% of these funds, while the participating doctors receive a monthly stipend and a portion of their salary deposited in Cuba.

It is why doctors will choose to be taxi cab drivers. They can make the same money without the stress.

Communism. Equity. No wealth gap.

Whatever was going on prior to Mamdani wasn't working. How in the world did apartment rents in not just Manhattan, but the outer boroughs get so untenable. Something's gotta give.

Mamdani may have the "magic bullet" that makes democratic socialism work.

They are!

Gensler has a great project going turning the Pfizer offices into residential.

If the rates were untenable, they would go down.

Making socialism work would definitely require magic.

When is the ComDomi's rent freeze to go in effect?
Would some landlords have opportunity to raise rents before the freeze begins?

The goal is not to lower rent prices. The goal is to eliminate private property. When all property belongs to the collective the govt will set fair rent rates.
