Certainly. my point was there was already a large amount of nato naval assets in the general area of the pipeline.

*And China/ Russia by Alaska - are being followed, watched, and listened to by nato attack subs from the US, UK, and Australia.

the pipeline is more valuable to Russia operational, then they can use it as a bargaining chip

somebody wanted to remove the pipeline bargaining chip from the game, this does not help the Russians at all

the Russians could have cut off supply and kept the line intact. If they wanted to blow it up, they could have launched a pipeline pig with a bomb on it and blown it up pretty easily from the inside. This was damage from the outside of the line

Actually, as Winston well knew, it was only four years since Oceania had been at war with Eastasia and in alliance with Eurasia. But that was merely a piece of furtive knowledge which he happened to possess because his memory was not satisfactorily under control. Officially the change of partners had never happened. Oceania was at war with Eurasia: therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia. The enemy of the moment always represented absolute evil, and it followed that any past or future agreement with him was impossible.

They control the supply. They aren’t under any obligation to supply. Why would they blast off both arms of the pipeline at three points? Makes zero sense. This was not Russia.

It’s amazing. Just went to the OT thread and there are a few that believe Russia did this to themselves.

A bit of logic as posted elsewhere by TBoy ----
quote:

"They can just turn it off, so why would they destroy it?"

To turn it off make Russia the belligerent party that Europe must rally against. It provides meat to the opposition against Russia in Europe.

To sabotage it and blame the US makes the US the belligerent party and possibly drives a wedge between western partners. This also scores domestic points in Russia to distract from the disaster that is the war and feeds the narrative that Russia is being attacked by the US. There is no downside for Russia here.

Who benefits from each scenario?

Ukraine benefits from Russia turning it off.

Russia benefits from sabotage blamed on the US.

The US does not benefit under either scenario.

Those German fools thought they were so smart. The foolishness and error of their smug arrogance should be rubbed in their face every day.

If we have ad revenue to spend in Europe, we should run this just for shits and grins.

Can you imagine being a SEAL and having to do something like that? You would know it was wrong. It could cause nuclear war. At the least, misery. Do you consider it a bridge too far and refuse?

I think you should. Something like that should be considered an illegal order.

I had the same thoughts, but it was probably posed to them as battling the Russians. Hindsight will play out
