These people act like the North American Indian didn't run around murdering each other raping each other and selling members of tribes they conquered in battle into slavery. And they did this long before the evil white man ever set foot on North America.

Were your ancestors involved in (literally) conquering/settling the continent?

I woukd imagine some on my mother’s side were. Deep french louisiana roots.

My father’s side much more recent immigrants.

The average persons great great grandfather wasn't smashing babies skulls against rocks.

But yeah the US government and early settlers consistently fricked over the native populations.

A very similar tract could be written about slavery. Everybody did it. The Europeans and the Americans were just the first to say this is wrong and stop doing it. They should be celebrated, not pilloried.

not to mention the Injuns sent some pretty bad bugs back to Europe.

I think current day Indian tribes should pay white people reparations for the millions of white deaths caused by smoking.

If you want a good idea of what America would look like today if we had left the natives alone, take a drive through parts of the south west and all the reservations. It’s mile upon mile of abject poverty. No industry, no very little in terms of economic development. The occasional casino wouldn’t exist either. Hell, most members are as mixed ancestrally as the rest of us because none of the tribes exist in sufficient enough numbers to maintain pure blood lines.

Tl/dr version of the OP in regards to the land you now live on

1) Unknown, unrecorded family of perhaps 6 established a homestead
2) Family died out due to drought, harsh winter, or disease
3) Unnamed group stumbled onto same property, improved it and thrived
4) Named but unknown tribe came across thriving community and intermarried, stole from, killed off and named the area for themselves
5) Known tribe expanded into that area and conquered unknown tribe
6) Recognized warrior tribe conquered the known tribe, interbred out the existing tribe
7) Settlers from foreign lands traded for the land from that tribe and built colonies
8) Foreign governments claimed land where their citizens thrived
9) Land began changing hands between foreign governments where multiple ethnicities resided
10) The US peoples revolted and claimed the land, and purchased more from other govts

* Community note: there is no group of people that can claim ownership of the land you reside on, because they took it from someone else who likely has no provable ancestry (See Elizabeth Warren)

Yeah, it's only bad when white Europeans did it.

And that is the real racism; the Europeans were bad because they should've known better. It's such a smug and insulting viewpoint.

coming to a continent and systematically wiping out an ethnic population is a bad things and we did it relatively recently.

Recently? It started in 1492 and went on until about 1880. "We" didn't do shite. No one who did is still alive these last hundred years.

Whomever is stronger and conquers, is the ruler of the land. Period.
Like it or not, be it fair or unfair...... this is the way of the world.

Hilariously, Vancouver’s NIMBYs are complaining, claiming that the developments are not in keeping with Indigenous tradition. But Canada’s First Nations seem to have little interest in hewing closely to other people’s view of what their traditions are. Modern people do not want to live like premodern farmers. They are not mystical Tolkien elves. They would like to have shiny new apartment buildings and walkable neighborhoods.

Reminds me of that Dave Chappelle bit

This concept presented by the OP is understood by most semi intelligent people by the time they're teenagers, same BS with slavery, where do reparations start? It's fricking impossible to unwind this shite!

But when we talk about “white washing history” we kinda should have open eyes about it. I wouldn’t spend too much of my day dwelling on it, but I also not writing this article to be like “actually this was fine”

What you think is fine and what someone 300-400 yrs ago think is fine are completely different.

besides that, no one gives a rats arse what you think is fine.

So are “we” not Americans?

is that not us?

Listen, I think i said in my first post, I can’t really regret it because of the massive benefits, and I dont spend a lot of personal time feeling sorry for not, and I sont encourage other to either.

But when history is discussed, let’s not sugar coat it or justify it.

So what? That native population screwed over others. That's the point you seem to miss.
