You are correct. Either abolish the income tax or charge it to everyone. There is no middle ground here.

Flat tax.

It is my experience that most proponents of a flat tax have no idea what there effective tax rate is.

Agreed, kill it all together, or lower equally across the board.

Besides, it totally flies in the face of the false narrative the MSM gleefully spreads for the progressives that Trump is "on the side of millionaires and billionaires."

Wait, so Trump is proposing to enact leftist policies to appease the left? This is one of those examples where most logical people will agree that "taxing the rich" is an ignorant and leftist talking point, but only the Trump sycophants will support this because TRUMP. This is a stupid progressive move. Take off your MAGA glasses for a minute and realize this is the Democrat base. Tax the rich and keep taxing them, meanwhile 50% of the country pays NO income taxes.

Why do i have to subsidize you? I'm already taxed high enough. Let me guess, you want me to "pay my fair share"? fricking ignorant regressives.

So you're admitting, a) you're a democrat and b) you support those making under $150K to not get taxed?

The backdrop of this proposal is significant, as approximately 93% of Americans aged 15 and over earned below $150,000 in 2022

So the proposal, is for 7% of the working population to pay 100% of the income taxes? Yeah, that's fair, legit, and conservative...

you understand that the married couple with 4 kids making 200k will also pay no income taxes on the first 150k that's a huge break for them.

a married couple with 2 kids making 100k per year now pay's practically pay no income tax now.

the middle class no longer pay income tax.

If that's your takeaway from the Commerce Secretary's statement, you do you, baw. You'll always have the latitude to send a check to the US Treasury on your own.

How.about no federal income tax

Trump originally pushed this with eliminating the IRS.

My guess is the 150k idea is to show the lefts hypocrisy when they come out opposed to a plan that taxes the wealthy and not the working class/middle class. Because their argument against no income tax will be that it mostly benefits the wealthy

We've already got too few people pulling the wagon and too many just riding.

Make the first $50k subject to taxation, then exempt the next $150k, if this large federal tax cut is a good thing.

Exactamundo.

The left already showed their hand when they opposed no tax on tips & Medicare earnings.

Fair tax plan for the win.

Fair tax takes the form of a national sales tax. And replaces all payroll taxes, among others.

Prebate paid to every citizen in the country makes the fair tax regressive. Non-citizens not eligible for prebate and will pay the tax to be in USA.

Fair tax is only paid on new items at the retail level.

Every time the government wants to raise taxes every person in the country knows instantly.

Critics say because of the tax taking the form of a sales tax at the retail level that it will encourage a black market. Keep the IRS to go after retailers.

Thomas Jefferson literally wrote in Article 1 of the Constitution there would be no direct tax upon the people, which lasted for 125 years until 1913's 16th Amendment which legalized the stealth of wealth from ALL of it's citizens under the threat of imprisonment.

Now, 112 years later, Trump has the balls to enact significant tariffs which paves the way for ending personal income tax & releases the financial burden from MOST of it's citizens ( but hopefully ALL one day soon) and you have a problem that it is not all or nothing? Any step, partial or full, to the ending income tax is a great step in the right direction that follows the vision of our Founding Fathers.

Tariffs & consumption taxes. That's what it was, and should be again. If you don't want to be taxed, don't consume goods/services. Thus, Flat Taxes would be unfair bc not everybody spends/buys/saves the same & have different wants/needs.

We agree on most things, stout, but you lost me on this one.

I've been a supporter of it since 2005 or so. Tough sell politically. Herman Cain got slaughtered by the media and the rest of the 2012 GOP Primary field on the issue.

Maybe with as large a following of dedicated disciples Trump has, similar to Obama in 2008-2010 timeframe, he can sell it and get enough momentum to get it done.
