as you can probably tell, half or more of td posters have a lot of repressed anger toward teachers for whatever reason.

They want to blame someone.
I get it.
Teachers are an easy, local target.
But the vitriol is wild.

I remember when I used to think teachers weren’t entirely beholden to their Leftist unions and just wanted to teach the children.

Remember when they stormed, and camped out in, the Wisconsin capital building?

I remember.

I would love to see the push back if a union went on strike for more money right now.

Unions in the north are a heckuva lot different than they are in the south.

Do you know what possibility online school opens up?

Teacher competition.

Little Suzy and Johnny parents may no long constrained by what school district, county or state they live in in order to get the kids in front of the best teachers.

That should scare the shite out of teacher's unions.

I would like to be paid by my school district if I’m expected to educate my children, or at the very least, I don’t want to pay taxes to the district

My wife is a teacher and she wants to return back to school as well her fellow teachers. She thinks virtual teaching is a bad idea and won’t benefit the kids at all.

I’m noticing that a LOT of people are picking up on how politicized this is without any prompting.

Spent time with my in-laws and they said a bunch of stuff about it the virus that sounded like it could come off the board without prompting my me. And I also passed by several people in Walmart in the phone ranting and raving about how horseshite this all is, complete with saying that Democrats would stab their own fathers in the back to win.

Anecdotal, but it supports the “silent majority” theory.

I have a feeling they are about to learn the true meaning of a term they previously only had an academic understanding of, Force Majeure, and how unsafe their cushy little contracts really are.

I have no issue with teachers per se I have a huge issue with public employees on full pay whining about how much stimulus they get and trying to set policy for those who have been put out of work.

Agreed. Heard on the news yesterday that the virtual teaching the last three months on the school year were as a whole ineffective. Until every household can have effective internet, like turning on your tap in the sink to get water, the way of the 'net is just lipstick on a pig.

The online “instruction” my children received last spring (8th and 10th grade) was designed in such a way that all work could be completed by them in under 3 hours a day, required no interaction with the teacher except a weekly check in, and included so much extra credit and lax grading that both children improved every single course grade to nearly 100. It was a joke. If that is what they plan this year then half the staff/faculty are not needed.

One grows weary of entitled incompetence. In my case, what you see is weariness. And understanding that there are many fine teachers who are also fine people (I was once a teacher myself), I would like those people to start picking fights with their unions and administrators, rather than just acquiescing to teacher's unions which are the very embodiment of failure. These unions are cheerleading for closures.

The amount of instruction time for students is probably less than 4 hours per day. You could easily reduce your teaching staff by 20% and not notice it.

Walker and the Repubs took away their collective bargaining for anything beyond base wages as I recall.

The teachers had to start contributing to their health care, prior they paid zero, and ended auto deduction of union dues among other things.
