It’s that simple! You should not be paid for not doing the job.

And we don’t need nearly as many teachers for on-line education.

That’s why so many private schools are going back. They realize people do not want to pay for subpar education. And that’s what elementary and middle school online education is

You are not going to like this, but not only will sedentary and insolent teachers get paid , they will probably somehow manage a pay raise. And the union that leads them around by the pussy will be 100% in favor of keeping the schools closed through 2021.

Agreed. Heard on the news yesterday that the virtual teaching the last three months on the school year were as a whole ineffective. Until every household can have effective internet, like turning on your tap in the sink to get water, the way of the 'net is just lipstick on a pig.

I really don’t get the war on teachers. Most want to return to normal, most teachers love their jobs and the kids they teach, the media is focused on a handful of Facebook post from Karen/Kevin teachers and some of you lump all teachers in with those idiots. It’s hard being a teacher in today’s society, homes are broken, kids have no respect for authority, a teacher is sometimes the only stable thing in a kids life.

Was going to say the same.
Many teachers want to be back in school.
It’s not their fault these decisions have been made.
Why aren’t folks blaming waiters? Salon workers?
The torch-wielding mob is becoming misplaced.

Agree. Like the private sector, find another job.

Academia will rue this covid conspiracy! Even if they defeat Orange Man Bad, 80% will lose their cushy professorships to on-line universities. And half of them are too ignorant to learn to code.

Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don’t upset us...

I remember when I used to think teachers weren’t entirely beholden to their Leftist unions and just wanted to teach the children.

Ahhh those were the days...

I’m not sure. Chatted with a superintendent yesterday. He’s a liberal and he thought that the virus was being politicized as well as the response. He said “If I don’t have kids in school, I don’t need the whole admin team. I don’t need nearly as many teachers. I certainly don’t need a PE or art teacher or a librarian.”

And tenure doesn’t apply in situations like this. You can let a PE teacher with 20 years experience go ahead of a non-tenured kindergarten teacher.

If teachers think they’re going to bully everyone into submission, they may be surprised. Now the Karen parents, they can make a negative impact. But I think a lot of parents need kids back in school.

Private elementary school is not much more expensive than daycare for church-supported private schools here.

You can see my previous post in this thread for my opinion on on-line school for young kids.

But let’s not use sudden shut down and rushed, slammed, forced virtual schooling on teachers that have never done it before nor expected too, as how all virtual school will be.

I know a lot of schools required teachers to complete additional training over the summer and are requiring teachers to make an online curriculum. Now these are private schools so I can’t say what the public schools are doing but if they are at all prepared, this is it

I’m not going to bash teachers but this isn’t a good analogy. Is there a waiters union pushing to keep restaurants closed?

Teachers are led by the union. If teachers want to go back so bad, they should leave the unions. But the union creates a lot of bad things that hurt students, like teacher tenure. The union gives teachers a bad name, but if teachers continue to pay their dues and support the union, then they deserve the bad sentiment that comes with the union

Edit: I can guarantee the private school teachers aren’t getting the same bad rep that the public school teachers are getting, and that’s bc they aren’t in a union and their students perform much better

To be fair, the unions have been making some wild statements. It’s not just an individual or two on Facebook.

Virtual school isn’t going to get significantly better over one summer with little preparation. Engagement will be horrific. Any school that goes online this year can pretty much write off the year, especially for their low students.

What was that people were saying about the Mooselimbs and allowing terrorism through not speaking out?

What was that about not speaking out about the Thin Blue Line and not castigating bad cops?

What was that said about the "community" not turning over the thugs and baby shooters?

What's that current protest tagline?

Oh yeah ...

"Silence is violence."

I guess in the instance of teachers: "Silence is violins."
