If we don’t they will. AGI is inevitable.

10 years is still an incredibly long timeline for AI systems having 0 regulations
I generally don't like any deals that try to lock in anything for that long. Things change, AI is advancing incredibly fast, and people like Elon Musk have said AI could be incredibly dangerous without some regulations in place.

Trump is trying to pass no restrictions on AI for 10 years in the BBB to try and compete with China for AI supremacy. This is a horrible idea just like the amnesty for Pharmaceutical companies making Covid vaccines. I understand wanting to out compete China, but our technology is advancing so fast that I don't believe that we can even predict what AI will be in ten years. What are your thoughts?
This entire BBB is idiocy and proof Trump's second term is a wash.

You want China to win the AI war? I’d rather the USA win. Either way, it’s coming. No stopping it.

China will win the AI war. The strong anti-science culture that is currently ruling the US is causing an outflow of scientists across a broad spectrum of research, including AI. The uncertainty of funding for research is causing them to rethink their commitment to projects in the US.
The beneficiaries of the exodus of scientists from the US are Europe and China. Countries like France and Germany are offering dazzling salaries and grants to lure US scientists.
They are being outcompeted by China, however. China’s commitment to scientific advances is total and they have no groups offering moral opposition to anything. They have the resources and people to race ahead of the rest of the world.

It won't be the public version, but China will have an AI behind the curtain that has no restrictions.
We can't tie one hand behind our backs.

That explains it. I wondered why they have over 200,000 of their best and brightest studying at US universities. And continue to steal 400 billion of IP annually, now I understand.

Big Tech (lead by Elon) has Trump's ear and holds significant sway over him. AI is their future. Unrestrained AI gets them there faster. Damn everyone else.

That tends to happen with bloated omnibus bills.

I am a recipient of a funded Fellowship studying the potential economic impacts of artificial intelligence…
The OP is right. AI will destroy any notion of a market based economy functioning appropriately. It needs checks, or Sam Altman might as well be declared president.

I can tell you exactly what I think AI will be in 10 years. And we're not going to like it.
It's called Skynet.

Trump is right that if we don't develop it China most certainly will.

I just want a law passed if something is created by AI it has to be posted so people are aware of it. I believe that is going to be one of the biggest dangers of AI. People passing off fake counterfeit media as something real and authentic. They need to get ahead of this before something big happens because of it. There is no reason to wait and be reactive instead of being proactive.

I don’t want liberals in California and California deciding policy because they control so much wealth in the country. California having an EV mandate was going to make the entire automobile industry basically go all EV. I don’t want them to have the same influence on AI. At least the Feds have some form of checks and balances.
