Well kids aren’t in school 24/7, they also sometimes eat food on the weekends, so that would be ridiculous.

Seriously, outside of memes, have you even tried to think about this topic?

You just said they were starving. So these parents are only neglecting their children’s health during the school year and only during the week? Your argument has just failed. You had a point if you wanted to end the failed food stamp program but you don’t. You want another failed government lunch program. Your suicidal empathy is why NY is about to elect a socialist/marxist to “fix all the problems” of a heavily democrat city and you can’t see the irony?

Nah that’s your goofy framing in a world based on memes. And a totally false dichotomy to boot. Might be all you’re capable of getting your head around but that’s more of a you problem.

Some kids come from really shite home situations for a litany of reasons and public school is all they got. I’m cool with making sure they get lunch if they’re there and they need one.

It doesn’t have to be that complicated.

Your jealousy of memes is quite telling. We know, the left can’t meme.

So you’re just going to pretend that my last post doesn’t exist?

Explain why you won’t give these kids money from the failed welfare program. Explain why you want to keep this program that you already admitted is a failure. Explain why the parents that are literally starving their children are only doing it during the school year. If these parents are the monsters you are implying, then why are you fighting to give them money and not their children? Your empathy is as true as Hochuls. Just another fricking Democrat that only cares about votes and not addressing the heart of the problem. Democrat policies.

You are trying to end the debate because you can’t answer these questions. And that’s because I’m right, you are wrong, and you can’t explain the fallacies in your posts that I pointed out.

No no, the national park service has signs about wild animals so we can’t feed innocent kids.

You’re just stupid because you don’t get it.

We should compromise and feed the innocent kids to the wild animals.

The “left can’t meme” is just code for the right can’t take a joke, everybody knows that. Just the other day, should’ve seen them come after me about an off color Kristi Noem joke, huge pansies. Maybe you saw that.

Nah man, we’re just not going to agree and so many of your underlying assumptions are woeful (comparing kids to wild animals, dunno what an 8 or 18 yr old is, think family life happens in a vacuum and only one option or the other should work for everyone or they’re all total failures). This is boring and it’s late.

But ultimately you’re right, feeding hungry kids is bad, you should put it on a campaign sign.

This still doesn't explain why it's rational for this taxpayer to feed the children of every person in school when the overwhelming majority of those parents can actually afford to keep the children themselves. I've never been against school lunches for poor children. But how did they convince you geniuses to feed the children of upper middle class people for free?

Upper middle class kids represent, what, maybe 10% of public school kids, if we’re being generous? I’m not going to get too hung up on a few well off kids getting free food if it means ALL the hungry kids have a full belly at school. Of all things to gripe about in this world, this shouldn’t be one of them.

Nothing says future lawyers and doctors like a Michelle Obama lunch. 15 years later Chicago school are so much better and the kids are thriving and not banging on a street corner.

My only issue with free school lunches, is that it should be for all students.

No outside food on school premises unless it's given by the school. None of it is gonna be remotely healthy.

What other parental functions should we put on the taxpayer? And why not free school dinner and bedtime snacks?

Many school systems in Central FL send them bags of food home for the weekend. Some had teachers delivering food to the homes of students during the summer.

You know they dropped off kid's meals and the hulkish, porcine mamas was smacking their lips as they dug through the bag to grab some snacks.

I am not sure how the equation works, but I recently went back to tour my old elementary school and high school. I was talking to the principal as he was showing me the cafeteria I used to have lunch in while watching the Apollo missions on the TV up on the shelf. I asked how much school lunches were now and he said everyone receives free lunch (except the teachers). This is in a rural school, and he said because over 75% of the children who attend there meet the qualifications for free lunches by government standards, then the remainder of the students get it as well. He said however that the quality of the food is pretty sad, and due to restrictions the dietary staff have rules they must adhere to. Low salt and sugar, with little to no fat is the rule. Gone are the days of the cafeteria pizza, the devil's food cake, or the corndog.
The sad part is that very little of the food gets consumed. According to him the kids refuse to eat it and more is thrown away than is consumed.

I was thinking the same. You have software to buy to keep track of meals, who had free lunch, who had reduced lunch, or who had to shell out full price. Then you had to keep track of accounting payments either monthly payments or if a child paid daily for it. You also had documentation to go through to figure out who qualified for what at the beginning of the year.

Back in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s, some employees of the Lafourche Parish school system wrote the code of a basic school lunch database for every school. You just had to type in a student’s lunch card id and it could pull up the balance and if they owed money to the cafeteria.

This was well before the modern computer and OS’s we have now. If I remember the system, it was run on some old IBM’s with amber screens and the database was limited to the school. This was before schools got connected to the internet or the system’s intranet. I think they even sold or licensed the software to other districts interested in the system. They even printed school id’s using your big bold lunch card number. Numbers were sequential by alphabetical order and had no check digit.

There was even a push to wear the Lunch Cards as ID’s and some kids quipped instead of calling people by name they called each other by their Lunch Card ID number.

Eventually, I think they got rid of it as now you needed barcode readers or magnetic strip readers and off the shelf software was available. They also ditched the Lunch card ID for a real school ID that could code information through a bar code that had more interoperability.
