This comes down to a basic morality question

freedom and higher death rates

greater levels of govt control but safer lives
Really? 10 years ago this gap was only 2 years. I don't understand your argument.

A lot of the deaths are due to fentanyl. Border security is needed.
The majority of fentanyl crosses at legal border crossings.

The reason why drug related deaths are higher than in the UK is because, unlike here, they don’t hand out pain meds like candy

Would Americans support legislation that makes it a lot harder to get various meds?

Would Americans support foregoing cars in favor of public transit?

At some people we have to accept that Americans are more into immediate gratification at expense of long term health

You would also have to throw in immigration, a lot of them come with pre existing issues, and poor health habits. The life expectancy of those countries is less than the US bending the curve down as more enter.

And I’m not sure you can really control for COVID (and riots). So many factors. Drugs. Alcohol. Isolation and the attendant depression and sleep issues.

It's been three years. Where are all the studies being publicized? Oh wait, that doesn't serve the purpose of the government and the fourth estate.

NIH.

The results, published in JAMA, show that after increasing around 2.2% per year over the previous two decades, deaths involving alcohol jumped 25.5% between 2019 to 2020, totaling 99,107 deaths.1

I mean, how much more clear can we get? Doesn't control for Brits, obviously, but focusing on the USA problem removes the need to worry about what is happening in Leeds or Blackpool. 25%. That's what some people would call statistically significant.

Most Brits eat like shite too. Sainsburys has plenty of crisps and carb loaded sandwiches to eat. England isn't France, for sure.

Our poorest people are fatties with all kinds of health problems. Add substance use to that and you have a high percentage of people dying in their 60s.

True, I spent all day in Walmart. I tell my black boss all time. Our society is in bad shape. Our work force can't support laziness and fat.
