I think we can all agree that one of the biggest flaws with Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings series was it’s lack of diversity. Well good news, the new Amazon series promises to change that.

LINK

quote:

The Lord Of The Rings star Lenny Henry has revealed the forthcoming Amazon TV series will be more diverse than the Peter Jackson movies.

..
“What’s notable about this run of the books, it’s a prequel to the age that we’ve seen in the films and books,” he told BBC Radio 4.

“It’s about the early days of the Shire and of Tolkien’s environment, so we’re an indigenous population of Harfoots, we’re hobbits but we’re called Harfoots. We’re multi-cultural, we’re a tribe not a race, so there are Black, Asian and brown, even Maori types within it.

..
The actor, who confirmed that he was joining the series in 2020, also said there is stronger female representation as well, with Morfydd Clark one of the leading stars previously confirmed for the show.

“There’s a very strong female presence in this, there are going to be female heroes in this evocation of the story, and there are going to be little people as usual,” he added.

The most important thing in entertainment is diversity for me. This makes me really happy to hear that they are going to focus less on the story and hiring the best people for the role and focus more on identity politics.

Agreed completely. No longer will POC children watch fantasy movies and wish there was a hobbit, orc, or elf that "looks like me"

Lol. the whole idea of hobbits was that they lived in a quaint village sameness all the time like Amish/Mennonites and anyone who was 'different' was immediately frowned upon.

Why are cosmopolitan shithole-dwellers so insecure they need to force themselves where they dont fit?

So f'n dumb

tolkien explicitly stated that The Silmarillion (and later the entire Legendarium) were aimed to be a mythological construct for England. He believed that unlike the Greeks, Norse, or the various Germanic people, the English had no specific mythology attached to their culture.

Middle earth WAS MEANT AS A PREHISTORY OF NORTHWEST EUROPE

why would you have asians and blacks in such a narrative?

Also, lotr explicitly has swarthy men who are supposed to represent southern europe, and men of harad/khand meant to represent middle east and near asian steppes.

It doesn’t mention anything about trans inclusion but hopefully we'll see some sort of Orc or Elve that explores different gender identities, possibly a pansexual or even a post op non cis male to female trans hobbit.

I don't give any shits how diverse the Hobbits or peoples of Middle Earth are. I'm a huge Tolkien fan and I love the movies but the books even more.

Sounds like this Amazon series is maybe trying to focus on the early world notes from the Silmarillion, maybe?

I might even give the series a watch, if not for the fact that since SJW infiltration has reached the point of having to point out how "inclusive" they are... it's only a matter of time before Bilbo's great-great-great-uncle is packing fudge with the plow boy next door.

Tolkien's world of elves, men, dwarves and halflings certainly had its problems with corruption, fear and weakness among the "good" races, but it was based on underlying morality... The dwarves would've never carved the great subterranean halls of Khazad-dum if they'd have been busy puffing peters. The early elves of Gondolin would never have perfected the smiting of the most strong and immaculate armor and weapons if they spent all their time browning weenies. Angmar King of the North would have laid waste to all other lands if the men of the West had chosen to ignore the actual evil in the world, and instead focus on not hurting other people's feelings.

In Tolkien's world, the beings of the world fought against evil because they had to. In modern America, people embrace it openly.

Hopefully, Amazon makes sure to include some disabled hobbits and mentally handicapped wizards.

The well of creativity in Loony Lefty Land (deep in Mordor of course) has run dry.

So they take someone else's creative work and then tweak it to 21st century wokeness.

Bruh I ain't watching LOTR unless the lead character is a strong independent black woman and at least 1/3 of the cast is part of the LGBTQ community.

Shut your mouth, bigot!

What a strange thing for HHTM to get booty blasted about. Let me guess - LOTR, Star Wars, and Harry Potter were your go to fantasies and morality examples growing up because of an absence of religion or father figure in your life, and now that the woke mob is fricking with it, you don’t know how to cope.

Am I more or less in the ballpark?

Tolkien’s legendarium is heavily Christian in its themes

Diversity of thought, skills, viewpoint, experience are all good. Superficial diversity because one feels guilty or otherwise some perverse form of tokenism is more of a symptom masking deeper problems.
