Sanford is indeed a fiscal conservative, but his party-first bias blinds him to new approaches to old problems. Anyone that's been in Congress for almost 25 years isn't much of a believer in limited government.

He took a stance early on against Trump and has pretty much stayed there. That unwillingness to bend can be necessary in Congress but you have to know when to do it. Apparently he doesn't.
