Need help responding to a leftist

Keeps claiming Trumps blowing up drug runners in the pacific ocean specifically the one when he ordered missils to strike them while clinging to wreckage as "illegal". Claims that this is where Trump lost them. This is ludacris to me as they would've killed way more American citizens if not stopped but then I hear cries of "due process". Just seems short sided to me especially considering the abject evil of the left. I keep asking for proof of what violations occurred and then I'm asked for proof that it was legal.
