NCAA canceling Football in the fall will have political ramifications

Thought about it after reading about how Chris Fowler thinks spring next year is gaining momentum for starting football back up
quote:
ESPN sports announcer Chris Fowler posted an eight-minute video on Instagram Sunday about three possible scenarios for the 2020-2021 College Football season:
1. Starting the season on time. "It's what we are hoping for but it doesn't seem realistic," Fowler said.
2. Start the season late, possibly in November. "You have to reshuffle the playoff and that sounds problematic," Fowler said. "Also, people are worried about the second wave of this virus coming back when the temperatures up north turn cold in November. Do you want to start a season and then have to shut it down? To me, that sounds disastrous."
3. Start the season in the Spring. "There is a third scenario that is gaining momentum," Fowler explained. "That's football in the Spring." "Beginning at some point in February, into March, April, May, maybe have the postseason in June... that would have to be reshuffled a bit." "It would be bizarre, it would wreak havoc on some other sports during that time of year but to avoid the financial disaster of having no football in the academic year I think it might be a fallback position." "I think that testing will come a long way by then. Perhaps we are closer to a vaccine, perhaps it will make more sense for people to gather in large numbers in stadiums in about eight months instead of the three or four."

Would be devastating for Spring sports.
Everyone's going to figure out how little people actually care about basketball.

Hell no. Either delay the start, shorten season, or no season at all.
Football in spring would be a cluster for all other sporting events. Don't even know how that would work

Yea, that’s not gonna happen.
And he really doesn’t want or believe it will happen either.
The ESJWPN is just virtue signaling.

People are really overthinking this. When you're not sure what to do usually the best thing to do is stand pat and delay the decision. Things will probably look ENTIRELY different (and much better) in 4 short weeks.
Some pencil necked college administrators are going to send the entire house of cards tumbling down if the NCAA doesn't step in and display leadership and patience here.

Fowler's IQ sure as hell isn't gaining momentum

This....college football in some shape or form will happen in the Fall. There may not be as many games and there may not be as many fans allowed but in some shape or form it will happen.

I think they should ditch the games against the sisters of the poor schools, play a conference and power 5 schedule only and get a season in this year.
I don't know what they actually will do but having a season in the spring and turning around and having another one in the fall doesn't make much sense to me.

JBE will have his wish to cancel LSU football.

Think about how fricking miserable going to a game in June would be. Early September is bad enough

Fowler is a media talking head that just so happens to work for a fear mongering network. Grain of salt

A.D.'s and Presidents need to get together and start putting together a plan to just play some games with as little travel as possible. This is likely a survival season. We can go a year without an 8 game conference schedule. Figure out some localized round robins and play them to pay the bills if nothing else.

it would mean 10 games would be most likely
I say 10 games because the other conferences have 9 conference games and typically 1 marque OOC opponent
so each SEC team would play a full conference slate, their required 1 OOC game and have 1 lower grade opponent
the only problem I see?
if that happens; look for a firestorm of lawsuits from the lower division schools that get shafted; that, and jockeying to be "the one" that stays on the sched and gets the huge payday

The south and midwest immediately after that announcement

Networks have waaaayyyyy too much money at stake, especially ESPN. No way football gets moved to the spring.
If they really are worried about a return of this virus, then moving to the spring makes ZERO sense, since here were are in the middle of April, and the virus is still hanging around.
They're gonna play, but I'd bet there will be extra steps taken to keep crowds away from their 'talent.'
Hell, I've probably had the stupid virus twice and not even known it since my work always had me in crowded stadiums and arenas. I don't know a single person who has actually gotten sick and/or tested positive.

To be fair states outside the deep south care way more about nfl than college. If nfl gets pushed it’ll be devastating

Yes, that is going to be an issue. I know a lot of those schools depend on those payoff games for their athletic budget, I'm not sure how that gets reconciled.

There are some parts of the country where February football isn't going to be very practical.
It would almost seem more practical to start the season a month earlier, in August and finish sooner if a second wave is the concern.
