So football in the spring and basketball with no fans in the fall

That’s my rumor of the day

maybe have the postseason in June

The championship game is outdoors in Miami. I do not see that happening.

Some venues are spoken for. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami hosts a 2 week pro tennis tournament in March. Other venues would have other scheduling conflicts. The logistics would be a nightmare.

NFL is a different beast. NFL players want to play to get paid.

There will be schools that if they cannot have home games with fans (thus $$$), they will not let their students play. For state schools, governors will get involved.

Thought about it after reading about how Chris Fowler thinks spring next year is gaining momentum for starting football back up

quote:
ESPN sports announcer Chris Fowler posted an eight-minute video on Instagram Sunday about three possible scenarios for the 2020-2021 College Football season:

1. Starting the season on time. "It's what we are hoping for but it doesn't seem realistic," Fowler said.

2. Start the season late, possibly in November. "You have to reshuffle the playoff and that sounds problematic," Fowler said. "Also, people are worried about the second wave of this virus coming back when the temperatures up north turn cold in November. Do you want to start a season and then have to shut it down? To me, that sounds disastrous."

3. Start the season in the Spring. "There is a third scenario that is gaining momentum," Fowler explained. "That's football in the Spring." "Beginning at some point in February, into March, April, May, maybe have the postseason in June... that would have to be reshuffled a bit." "It would be bizarre, it would wreak havoc on some other sports during that time of year but to avoid the financial disaster of having no football in the academic year I think it might be a fallback position." "I think that testing will come a long way by then. Perhaps we are closer to a vaccine, perhaps it will make more sense for people to gather in large numbers in stadiums in about eight months instead of the three or four."

What is this bullshite? It's only April, most schools were only holding A-day's this week. There is zero reason to think right now that campuses will not be back open for fall classes. While there might be a condensed schedule (get rid of all OOC Games) the season will go on.

I don't understand why all of the experts are automatically shooting down option 1. We don't even know what June looks like at this point.

There's no reason to cancel anything. Nothing should have been closed in the first place. This virus is a hoax.

Chris Fowler. Always the "smartest guy in the room"

He can frick off with his stupid bullshite. Here's an idea Chris since you're such a pussy. How about you sit home and not announce any more games while the rest of the country enjoys college football. It's a win for you and a big win for us. Stick to tennis a-hole.

I think the coaches are pretty opposed to it, because they haven’t had the ability to prep their teams and get their players in shape

You should be canceled like your team was on 1/13/20.

Not just Fowler but any of these "sports people" barely even know sports. I hate it but a lot of idiots here on this board know a lot more about college football than they do. Having these hacks prognosticate on operation "restart" is a joke. You can't seriously entertain anything they have to say about it unless you are more stupid than they are.

the only problem I see?

if that happens; look for a firestorm of lawsuits from the lower division schools that get shafted; that, and jockeying to be "the one" that stays on the sched and gets the huge payday

You're right that the smaller schools would be ruined, but for marquee programs, the margin is in those extra games, too. It doesn't threaten their survival, of course, but it hits their bottom line pretty hard, too.

ESPN would sink Disney if they cancel football. Cancel sports packages on TV, less bar & restaurant traffic. Less beer/alcohol sales. No one visits college towns for another semester.

These medical experts don’t see the big picture outside of the hospitals in a few big metropolitan cities. If this goes into the summer people will straight up ignore these stay at home orders.

Would be devastating for Spring sports.

Everyone's going to figure out how little people actually care about basketball.

True, but there won’t be spring sports without football, save for basketball.

It has already begun...
