The rich commies in the Soviet Union were really rich but there weren't that many of them. Kinda like California today. The rich there have so much money it skews the economic data for the whole state.

Except: those states didn’t vote democrat during their periods of primary wealth growth. They were mostly republican during those times, and after becoming rich, transitioned to democrat.

Look at the actual areas of those states and the poor areas overwhelming vote democrat

Yes it does.
Take Louisiana for instance, break it down parish by parish and zoom in on actual neighborhoods and you'll see that the poorest areas ACTUALLY vote democrat.
Exactly. Every red state is like this.

stupid is as stupid does in your case.

Article didn't seem biased to me. More just noting an interesting point. If anything it seemed more "Republicans are the ones now representing the poor"

Conventional wisdom has long proclaimed Republicans the party of the rich and Democrats the party of the poor! Forty years ago that was largely true. The poor almost everywhere elected Democrats. That is how most media portray it now.

That is my point.
Poverty comes with all kinds of social issues so those who are well off but still near impoverished areas will undoubtedly reject the mechanisms that sustain them.

Shhhh! We really need to stop pointing this out to them so that they stop moving down here.
There are people that would move to Alabama over $50k??? And I'm not speaking of football recruits.

So when should we expect to see the southern states become the wealthiest and the NE and West Coast become poor? When will it flip?

Man I wish NPCs were capable of critical thinking.
I dont know what part of Alabama you live in. The only way that is true is if you want to live in a Mcmansion in Maryland.

As a percentage of their gdp New York has the highest debt of any state in the US. Politicians decide debt of a state, their citizens the wealth of the individuals who live there.
If the intent of the OP was to prove liberal politicians create wealth, it was a very prolific "miss".

By that same token, as you stated, the reason the Republican states are poorer is a function of the citizens.

I completely agree that the Democratic Party is the party of wealthy plutocrats and their minority pawns.

Why do you guys pretend states like LA and MS have these booming economies like the Northeast.
Yes, the Democratic areas are the poorest in Red states. But if the government is primarily Republican, that means the majority of the population votes R overall.
So a Republican legislature should be able to pass laws that promote commerce and good economics like the Blue states. Instead (as this board openly admits several times) businesses don't want to open HQ here and we suffer brain drain to other states.
How exactly are poorer states bastions of Republicanism while having fewer economic opportunities?
Posted on 10/21/18 at 1:32 pm to StringedInstruments
Because most Republicans aren’t conservatives. If you look at overwhelming Republican States like Alabama, we take more money from the federal government for Medicaid and Medicare than any other state. We talk the talk, but our politicians don’t walk the walk.
Posted on 10/21/18 at 1:36 pm to StringedInstruments
Why do you think state legislatures are responsible for the wealth of their constituents? Governments can't create income.

Alabama has been Republican controlled since 2010. Those Republicans chose not to expand Medicare. What you're referring to happened under Dem rule, and will take more than just 8 years to fix.

I live in Huntsville and while my salary would be nothing special in LA or NYC, it's pretty kickass when $1350/month rent gets me one of the nicer apartments in the city
the metric you are citing here is myopic and skewed as a result of the lack of cost of living adjustments

Here's an example.
I live in Mandeville. The median income is around $50k.
Tallulah, a city of comparable size, has a median income of about $17k.
Wanna guess which one votes R and which one votes D?
It's not the Republicans' fault that areas controlled by democrats are poor.
