Nation’s poorest states have Republican legislatures; richest have Democrat

From the USA Today
quote:
Poorest states have Republican legislatures, and richest have Democratic ones
quote:
Though income drives the rankings from poorest (West Virginia) to richest (Maryland), the list also includes population, unemployment and poverty rates. To unlock the political secret in these data points, cross-reference them with figures available from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) showing which party controls state legislatures.
quote:
Eighteen of the 19 poorest states have legislatures where both chambers are Republican controlled. New Mexico (46th richest, fifth poorest) is Democratic. But there isn’t another blue or purple state until you get to purple Maine (31st richest, 20th poorest) with its “split” legislature of one party in each chamber. All the states in between (such as Tennessee and Florida) are Republican, both chambers. So is Michigan, where Republicans hold all high state offices (where Donald Trump won in 2016). Above New Mexico, you jump all the way to middle of the pack Vermont (27th richest, 24th poorest) to find a state with both legislative chambers held by Democrats.
quote:
But all five richest states have both legislative chambers controlled by Democrats – Maryland, New Jersey, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Overall, Democrats dominate the 20 richest states.

Someone making 50k in AL is richer than someone making 100k in Massachusetts.
Man I wish NPCs were capable of critical thinking.

Is it suppose to be suprising that wealthier states are more likely to elect politicians with more liberal spending desires?
Of course states with higher incomes will be more likely to vote for higher taxes. They can more easily afford it. This should be chalked up to the no shite department

This is a correlation not causation example
The exact opposite was true in the 1950s and 1960s: richest states were conservative republican, poorest states were democrat

So you’re saying democrats are the party of the 1%.

I didn’t say anything.
But the article goes on to persuade people to vote Democrat for wealth and establishes ethos by mentioning the author’s net worth.

And the party of slavery
the party of anti reconciliation during reconstruction
the party of that killed John Brown
the party of Jim Crowe
the party of against Civil Rights
the party who killed Lincoln, JFK, MLK, Bobby Kennedy and shot Reagan and Scalise
the party that has run Chicago and Detroit into decline, chaos and collapse
the party of Mobs, not jobs
go blue!

Now, let's look at states with the top ten largest debt - state and local governments combined: New York is #1 - Democrats. Wyoming is last - Republicans.
I'm not sure of your point

Probably because Democrat policies help the rich, not the poor.

Also, Democrats controlled the Mississippi and Louisiana Legislatures until a few years ago.

Shhhh! We really need to stop pointing this out to them so that they stop moving down here.

Hawaii is not a "rich" state. Not even close to being a rich state.

how do you think they got rich in the first place?

I'd bet dollars to donuts that when adjusted for cost of living this is not the case.

Does it really surprise anyone that states with large poor populations tend to vote Republican?

Being aware of the problem is the first step. Good luck on your journey to conservatism. You can do it!!...I believe in you!

What about cities? Who runs the poorest cities and have for decades?

Yes it does.
Take Louisiana for instance, break it down parish by parish and zoom in on actual neighborhoods and you'll see that the poorest areas ACTUALLY vote democrat.
