He gone. Every county surrounding Nashville is very conservative. The last two liberal mayors of Nashville have been caught fricking their security detail on trips on taxpayers dime and now covering up pandemic case counts. This fricker also increased property taxes 34% during the pandemic.

Politicians always attempt to take credit for success and deflect blame for failure. This is a given.
Politicians are also tasked with the "Just do something!" demands of the electorate whenever something bad is happening. This is also a given.
So put yourself in the mayor's shoes.
Nursing homes and construction crews are driving thousands of cases in your city, but there's nothing you can do about the former and you're probably getting bribed to ignore the latter. That means you have to find a scapegoat to punish - enter restaurants and bars and their "irresponaible" patrons.
The numbers don't have to add up, it just has to seem likely to voters. And low wage servers don't vote, don't donate to campaigns, and value your stance on social issues more than any economic policy, making them a ripe target for squeezing to make a point. This exact same thing is happening with college students as well.
