That is what we are told. But these mandates are to protect others, which the vaxxed and the unvaxxed both spread the disease. Mandating these vaccines for our safety is not the reason at all. If I want to take the risk as it is called then that is on me. After this, what other freedom is next?
As for "freedom", vaccines have been required for the last 100 years, especially for nurses and doctors. You were in the military and an RN, you probably got tons of jabs the rest of us didn't.

When people are in this situation, surely he can find a Dr friend that will close the door, squirt the shot into the sink, and sign his chart.
He would get papers and all would be well.

Certainly you must understand by now that we didn’t serve to protect individual freedoms but instead corporate freedoms. In a fashion, your son is simply enjoying the fruits of the freedoms we served to protect. Been a lifetime since the US has fought a war where it is indisputable that we were fighting to protect the liberty of those on our own soil.
Expect this to happen more when the FDA gives Pfizer and Moderna vaccines full approval for use. Employers are going to do what the government really can’t w/r/t forcing vaccination. They’re going to let the market give those who choose not to do it a “price signal” so to speak. Expect health insurance companies to be granted the right to deny payment for COVID-related care to the unvaccinated. I expect that to be a shitshow that insurers exploit in ways that were never intended too.
The government will never officially lift a finger to make you get the vaccine. The business world will do the heavy lifting because they want people to go back to spending like they were before the pandemic spooked consumer habits. And most people will never organize against it because it is their employer making them do it instead of the government.
Nothing like the threat of indigence to goad people into conforming behavior.
