My big concern about impeachment

Pelosi knows impeaching Trump only to be acquitted by the Senate is a huge loser.
She's crazy but not stupid.
My concern is that she knows there is some Republican support in the Senate to get rid of Trump.
We could rattle off 8 that would do it without a trial.
There are probably 10-15 more that might be open to it.
This is a high stakes game and I wouldn't be so quick to say impeachment is a gift to Trump.
Plenty Republicans as stupid as Democrats.

As long as Trump has 34 votes in the Senate (and he certainly does), then all of this is academic.
It's a binary choice in both chambers. Yes/no to impeachment. Yes/no to removal. No grading on a curve. No vote harvesting.

Now where near enough. Need 67 votes IIRC.

The best part of this is that Trump can finally spin the fact that AOC is now the de facto leader of the Democratic party

Maybe it is time for some reform in the GOP. Time to elect some folks that won't spend us into oblivion like the Dems. Too many in the GOP say one thing and then ask for more money for pet projects in their state.

There are neverTrumpers even secret ones but not enough.

They'd better not try this shite until AFTER the gun confiscations are complete.

I'm kind of hoping that if successful this will be the spark that will burn this whole shite house to the ground. American politic has jumped the shark. Time for a change.

My big concern as stated in another thread, is the ignorance of the electorate. Too many people believe impeachment equals wrong doing. And they'd vote for the Dem nominee just because they don't know any better.

First, to remove they will need 2/3 Or 67 votes in the Senate to convict. Assume that all 45 Dems and the 2 Independents vote to convict, name the 20 Republicans that would vote to convict.
Second, the Senate by majority vote, controls the proceedings. When Clinton was impeached the Republican controlled Senate did not allow public testimony. In this case I would not only want the Senate to demand public testimony but only allow the House managers to conduct the witness examinations, no outside counsel. Could you imagine Maxine Waters in the Senate trying to conduct a witness examination?

Good luck finding 20 some odd R's to join the inpeachment. They'd be sent out to pasture by the RNC

There won't be riots like there would if this was done to Obama.
but we are going to see push back in this country for a long time....if this goes through...in other words this is going to be divisive to already divisive political theater.
there is no crime...
there is no need to go look for crimes, that's already been exercised the last 3 years.
so, let them do what they are going to do...
Trump supporters are going to have come out from hiding and voice their opinions

If I had to guess, there's a 50:50 chance Pelosi does nothing.
If she does something, she will move to censure the POTUS, not impeach.
She'll then try to sell censure as some awful, horrible, terrible mark on the Trump Presidency.
They simply have NOTHING to justify impeachment. There is no way in hell, w/o an actual crime that the Senate would come anywhere close to the numbers you cite.
Meanwhile, Trump will release the transcript tomorrow. Maybe something bad will be in it, but that is highly unlikely. Regardless, as of this afternoon there is nothing impeachable.
Trump's approval is sitting at 53%.

I'm all for this.

She had been saying it may backfire, but so much she can do with how crazy her party is. They are blinded by hate, and running on emotion.

And a coward. She's afraid of the extremists that are taking over the Democrat party.

They probably also know it will fail, but want everyone to go on record because they think it could impact the election. Anyone that thinks he should be impeached will show up to vote to replace anyone that votes against.
Unfortunately for them, I bet there is a much larger group of people that will show up to vote to replace those that voted for
